Activepieces is an open-source automation and AI workflow platform designed to help teams build, manage, and deploy business automations and AI-powered workflows. It combines visual workflow building with AI agents, tables, integrations, MCP connectivity, and developer features, allowing both technical and non-technical users to automate recurring tasks across their applications. Activepieces can be used through its cloud platform or deployed on a company’s own infrastructure.
The platform is built around several connected components: Flows, Agents, Tables, Chat, and integrations called Pieces. Flows allow users to define triggers and actions visually, while Agents can perform tasks using connected applications and available tools. Tables provide structured data that flows and agents can read and write. Activepieces also includes a chat-based workflow builder that can create automations from natural-language descriptions.
Activepieces currently provides more than 760 integrations, called Pieces. These integrations connect Activepieces with services across artificial intelligence, productivity, marketing, communication, sales and CRM, developer tools, content, business intelligence, commerce, accounting, customer support, and human resources. The integration catalog includes applications such as Gmail, Slack, OpenAI, Notion, Google Sheets, HubSpot, Salesforce, Airtable, Google Drive, Stripe, Shopify, Discord, GitHub, Microsoft Teams, Intercom, Asana, and many others.
One of Activepieces’ defining characteristics is its open-source approach. The core platform is released under the MIT license, while certain enterprise and cloud features are commercially licensed. The individual Pieces are also open source, and developers can create their own integrations using TypeScript.
The platform is particularly focused on AI automation. Users can create AI agents that work with connected applications, give agents access to specific tools, and combine agents with traditional automation flows. Activepieces also supports MCP, allowing compatible AI clients such as Claude, Cursor, Gemini CLI, Windsurf, and Zed to interact with connected Activepieces tools.
Activepieces provides support for human-in-the-loop workflows, including approval steps, branching, retries, waitpoints, subflows, and error handling. This allows organizations to automate repetitive processes while retaining human control over actions that require approval.
Developers can also extend the platform. Activepieces uses TypeScript throughout its application stack, and its Pieces are implemented as TypeScript packages. Developers can create custom Pieces, connect REST or GraphQL APIs through the HTTP piece, and contribute integrations to the open-source catalog.
Deployment flexibility is another important feature. Activepieces can run on Activepieces Cloud or on a company’s own infrastructure using Docker or Kubernetes. The platform also supports air-gapped deployments for organizations that require environments without outbound network access.
For organizations, Activepieces includes governance and security capabilities such as projects, role-based access, SSO, SCIM, audit logs, secret-management options, and controls for which integrations users can access. Higher-tier plans provide additional enterprise governance and deployment features.
Activepieces is therefore positioned between traditional no-code automation tools and developer-oriented workflow platforms. Its visual builder makes common automations accessible to non-developers, while TypeScript, custom Pieces, APIs, self-hosting, MCP, and enterprise controls provide additional flexibility for technical teams.
Activepieces currently offers four main plans: Free, Plus, Team, and Ultimate. The Free plan costs $0 and is free forever with no credit card required. It includes 100 credits per day, unlimited flows, Agents and Chat, Tables, MCPs, and API access.
The Plus plan costs $16 per month when billed annually and includes 10,000 credits per month, up to five users, unlimited flows, and bring-your-own AI keys. Additional credits are charged at $0.007 per credit.
The Team plan costs $166 per month when billed annually and includes 50,000 credits per month, 25 users, unlimited projects, SSO, standard roles, global connections, team analytics, and email support.
The Ultimate plan uses custom pricing and is designed for enterprise deployments. It adds custom yearly credit allocations, dedicated workers, execution priority, SCIM, custom roles, releases and Git Sync, audit logs, secret-management features, and dedicated support.
Activepieces provides a combination of visual automation, AI agents, open-source integrations, developer extensibility, and self-hosting that makes it useful for organizations that want more control over their automation infrastructure. Its 760+ integrations cover a broad range of business and technical applications, while its open-source model allows developers to inspect and extend the platform.
A major advantage is the ability to use the same platform for simple visual workflows and more advanced AI-powered processes. Users can build flows visually, use AI agents for tasks that require contextual decisions, write TypeScript when additional customization is needed, and expose connected tools through MCP.
Self-hosting is another important advantage for organizations that need control over where their automation data and credentials are stored. Activepieces supports cloud deployment as well as Docker, Kubernetes, and air-gapped environments.
The main considerations are that advanced enterprise governance features require higher-tier plans, while self-hosting requires technical knowledge and infrastructure management. The credit-based pricing model also means organizations with substantial workflow volume need to monitor their usage.
For teams seeking an open-source automation platform with AI agents, a broad integration catalog, developer extensibility, and flexible deployment options, Activepieces provides a comprehensive automation environment.
