Adobe Firefly

Adobe Firefly is Adobe’s generative AI platform for creating and editing images, videos, audio, vectors, and other creative content. It was introduced by Adobe in March 2023 as a family of generative AI models focused initially on image generation and text effects. Since then, Firefly has expanded into a broader creative AI environment with tools for image creation, video generation, audio generation, editing, ideation, and creative production.

The Firefly platform is designed to help creators move from an initial idea to a finished creative asset more quickly. Users can describe what they want using natural language prompts and generate content from those descriptions. The current Firefly platform also provides editing tools that allow users to modify generated content rather than starting from scratch.

For image creation, Firefly can generate images from text prompts and provide controls for refining the result. Users can also generate images from reference images, sketches, or other creative inputs. Its image editing capabilities include removing objects, removing backgrounds, expanding images, and upscaling content. These features can be useful for graphic designers, marketers, social media creators, photographers, and other creative professionals.

Firefly has also expanded beyond still images. The platform can generate video clips from text prompts and images, while allowing users to make changes through natural-language instructions. Adobe describes Firefly as supporting flexible video resolutions and aspect ratios, making it suitable for different creative and publishing requirements.

Audio is another major part of the platform. Firefly includes tools for generating soundtracks, music, sound effects, speech, and voiceovers. Adobe describes its soundtrack generation as producing music that is licensed for use, while its speech-generation capabilities can be used for professional-sounding voiceovers and narration.

One of the major developments in the current Firefly platform is its support for multiple AI models. Rather than relying exclusively on Adobe models, Firefly provides access to models from Adobe and selected partners. Adobe’s current Firefly page identifies models and technologies from companies including Google, OpenAI, Kling AI, Runway, Luma AI, ElevenLabs, Black Forest Labs, and others. This gives creators the ability to explore different models within one creative environment.

Firefly also includes Firefly Boards, which are designed for creative exploration and visual development. Users can collect ideas, organize visual references, remix concepts, and experiment with different AI models while developing a creative direction. This makes Firefly useful not only for final asset generation but also for brainstorming, moodboarding, and early-stage creative planning.

Another newer feature is Firefly AI Assistant. Adobe describes it as a creative AI assistant that can understand a desired outcome and orchestrate multi-step workflows across Adobe creative applications. Instead of requiring users to manually switch between applications and tools, the assistant can coordinate tasks across products such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Lightroom, and other Creative Cloud applications. Adobe announced the public beta of Firefly AI Assistant for April 27, 2026 for eligible plans.

Firefly is particularly closely connected to Adobe Creative Cloud. Firefly-powered features are available within applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Adobe Express, and Premiere. This allows users to combine generative AI with established professional editing and design workflows. For example, a designer can generate or modify an image with Firefly-powered features and then continue editing the asset in Photoshop or another Adobe application.

Adobe has also emphasized commercial-use considerations in the development of Firefly. When Firefly was introduced, Adobe stated that its initial model was trained using Adobe Stock images, openly licensed content, and public-domain content, with a focus on creating generative AI designed for commercial use. Adobe has also incorporated Content Credentials and other transparency initiatives into its broader approach to generative AI.

Firefly is available through the web and mobile devices. Adobe’s current technical documentation lists support for modern desktop browsers and provides a Firefly mobile application for supported iOS and Android devices.

The platform has extensive language support. Adobe currently lists a large number of interface languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Polish, Turkish, Thai, Vietnamese, Ukrainian, and others. Adobe has also stated that Firefly supports prompts in more than 100 languages, allowing users to describe creative ideas in many different languages.

Firefly uses a generative-credit system for many premium AI features. Adobe currently offers a free option with limited daily generations, as well as paid Firefly plans. The current individual plans listed by Adobe include Firefly Standard, Firefly Pro, Firefly Pro Plus, and Firefly Premium. The plans provide different monthly allocations of generative credits and access to different creative capabilities.

Overall, Adobe Firefly is positioned as more than a simple AI image generator. It is a broader creative AI workspace combining image generation, video, audio, editing, ideation, AI-assisted workflows, and access to multiple AI models. Its strongest value is its connection with Adobe’s established creative ecosystem, making it possible to use generative AI alongside professional tools that many designers, photographers, video editors, marketers, and creative teams already use.

Pricing and Review

Adobe currently offers a free Firefly option with limited daily generations. Paid plans include Firefly Standard at US$9.99/month with 2,000 generative credits, Firefly Pro at US$19.99/month with 4,000 credits, Firefly Pro Plus at US$49.99/month with 10,000 credits, and Firefly Premium at US$199.99/month with 50,000 credits. Adobe also offers free trials on selected plans. Pricing and promotional offers can vary by region and can change over time.

Review: Adobe Firefly is a broad creative AI platform with strong integration into Adobe’s professional creative ecosystem. Its combination of image, video, audio, editing, ideation, and multi-model workflows makes it useful for a wide range of creative projects. The main consideration is that advanced generation features use generative credits, and higher-volume creative production can require a more expensive plan.
