Coda AI

Coda AI is an AI-powered work assistant built into Coda’s collaborative document and workspace platform. It is designed to help teams create content, analyze information, organize data, summarize documents, and automate repetitive work without requiring users to leave their workspace. Coda introduced Coda AI in June 2023, initially offering AI Assistant, AI Column, and AI Block features. The product has since expanded into a broader AI layer that works directly with documents, tables, pages, and other Coda building blocks.

Coda AI is different from a standalone chatbot because it is designed to work with the information already stored inside a Coda document. Users can reference pages, tables, rows, and other document content when creating prompts, allowing the AI to work with the context of a team’s existing information. This makes it useful for tasks such as summarizing project information, finding key themes, creating structured content, and turning raw data into more useful formats.

One of the main features is AI Chat, which provides a conversational assistant inside a Coda document. Users can ask questions about their documents, brainstorm ideas, find information, identify themes, and work through content. AI Chat can use the current page, the entire document, or selected content as context. Generated responses remain in the side panel until the user chooses to insert them into the document.

AI Assistant focuses on creating and improving content. It can generate formatted text, headings, checklists, bullet points, paragraphs, blog posts, FAQs, taglines, outlines, and tables. It can also help users edit existing text and transform rough notes into more polished material. This makes Coda AI useful for writing, documentation, meeting preparation, project planning, and internal communications.

Another important feature is AI Column, which brings AI directly into Coda tables. Users can add an AI column to summarize information, find action items, identify key insights, create tags, assign metrics, or run custom prompts against data. AI Column can also automatically populate new rows based on the pattern of existing information, making it useful for processing larger datasets without manually repeating the same task. Coda announced an AI Column upgrade in 2026 using newer models intended to improve speed, accuracy, and consistency.

AI Block provides another way to generate information from documents and tables. It can create summaries, identify action items, highlight key themes, and refresh generated information when the underlying content changes. Users can reference specific pages or tables when creating an AI Block, allowing the generated result to remain connected to the document’s information.

Coda AI also includes an AI Reviewer that can provide feedback on documents. It can perform comprehensive reviews, identify grammar and spelling issues, and leave AI-generated comments throughout a document. This provides a collaborative editing experience in which AI feedback appears alongside normal document comments.

Automation is another major part of Coda AI. The platform is designed to turn repetitive tasks into more scalable workflows, while Coda’s integrations allow information from external applications to be brought into documents. Coda currently advertises more than 600 integrations, including tools such as Slack, Salesforce, Jira, Figma, Miro, Zoom, Google, AWS, HubSpot, Google Sheets, Microsoft Teams, GitHub, Asana, Mailchimp, Gong, and Dropbox.

Coda has also expanded its AI capabilities beyond its original AI features. In 2026, Coda introduced Coda MCP, allowing supported AI clients such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, and Microsoft Copilot Studio to interact with Coda documents through natural-language instructions. The MCP can read and write information in Coda and is designed to let external AI clients act on a user’s documents.

Coda’s AI system uses a credit-based model for paid workspaces. Pro, Team, and Enterprise plans provide different monthly AI credit allocations per Doc Maker, while Free-plan users and Editors can access a limited AI trial. The current allocation is 2,000 credits per Pro Doc Maker, 6,000 per Team Doc Maker, and 12,000 per Enterprise Doc Maker per month.

Coda also emphasizes data protection around AI usage. According to its documentation, information submitted to Coda AI may be shared with third-party AI providers to provide the requested functionality, but Coda states that those providers and contractors are not allowed to use the information to train their models. Coda also states that enterprise customers’ AI inputs and results are not used to improve Coda’s own AI functionality.

In 2025, Coda became part of the Superhuman product family following Grammarly’s acquisition of Coda, and in July 2026 the product was renamed Superhuman Docs. Existing Coda documents, workflows, tables, Packs, automations, formulas, plans, and billing were retained. The AI functionality therefore sits within a product that is evolving from the Coda brand into Superhuman Docs.

Coda AI is particularly suited to teams that want AI embedded directly into their documents and structured data rather than operating as a separate chatbot. Its combination of AI writing, document analysis, table automation, integrations, and external AI connectivity makes it useful for project management, research, business operations, knowledge management, marketing, sales, and collaborative productivity.

Pricing

Coda AI is not sold as a completely separate standalone subscription. Coda’s current billing model charges for Doc Makers on paid workspaces, while Editors and viewers can participate without being charged as Doc Makers. Coda currently offers Free, Pro, Team, and Enterprise plans.

Coda AI is included for Doc Makers on paid plans. The AI allowance is based on monthly credits: 2,000 credits per Pro Doc Maker, 6,000 credits per Team Doc Maker, and 12,000 credits per Enterprise Doc Maker. Credits are pooled across the workspace’s Doc Makers.

Additional AI capacity can be purchased when required. Coda currently lists additional packages of 2,000 credits for $2 per Doc Maker per month, 6,000 credits for $6 per Doc Maker per month, or unlimited AI for $12 per Doc Maker per month.

Coda’s Free plan also provides an AI trial. Free users and Editors can use Coda AI until their trial credits are exhausted, after which continued AI use requires an eligible paid Doc Maker arrangement.

Review

Coda AI’s strongest characteristic is that it places AI directly inside documents, tables, and structured workspaces. Rather than requiring users to copy information into a separate chatbot, Coda AI can reference the content already stored in a document. This makes it particularly useful when the task depends heavily on internal project information or structured tables.

The combination of AI Chat, AI Assistant, AI Columns, AI Blocks, and AI Reviewer also gives users several ways to apply AI. Someone writing a document can use AI Assistant, while someone working with structured data can use AI Column, and someone analyzing a project document can use AI Chat or AI Block.

Its integration ecosystem is another significant advantage. Coda connects with hundreds of external tools, allowing teams to bring information from communication, project-management, CRM, design, storage, and productivity applications into a shared workspace.

The main limitation is the complexity of its billing structure. Coda AI access depends on the user’s role, workspace plan, and available AI credits rather than being represented by one simple AI subscription. Heavy AI usage can therefore require monitoring credits or purchasing additional capacity.

Another consideration is that Coda AI is most valuable when users already work with Coda’s documents, tables, and connected data. It is less focused on being a general-purpose standalone conversational AI application. Its value comes from combining AI with a broader collaborative workspace.

The 2026 transition to Superhuman Docs also means that users may encounter both Coda and Superhuman branding during the transition. Existing Coda functionality remains available, but the product’s identity and AI roadmap are evolving under the Superhuman brand.
