Miro AI

Miro AI is the artificial intelligence layer within Miro, a collaborative visual workspace designed for brainstorming, planning, research, product development, diagramming, workshops, and team collaboration. Miro AI brings generative AI, AI agents, AI workflows, content generation, synthesis, diagramming, and automation directly into Miro’s collaborative canvas. Instead of treating AI as a separate chatbot, Miro allows teams to use the content already present on their boards as context for AI-powered work.

Miro AI was officially announced in May 2023 as a collection of AI-powered features designed to improve common and complex workflows inside Miro. The initial capabilities focused on activities such as brainstorming, customer research analysis, strategy workshops, technical diagramming, and product design. Miro has since expanded its AI offering into a broader AI platform that includes AI Workflows, Sidekicks, Flows, Connectors, and an MCP server.

One of Miro AI’s central advantages is its ability to use the entire canvas as context. Information created during brainstorming sessions, design sprints, retrospectives, research exercises, planning workshops, and other collaborative activities can provide context for AI interactions. This allows teams to continue working from information they have already developed rather than repeatedly copying information into a separate AI application. Miro describes this approach as bringing the team’s context and tools together in one collaborative environment.

Miro AI can generate and transform a wide variety of content. Users can create ideas from prompts, summarize information, organize sticky notes, transform unstructured information into structured formats, and generate diagrams. It can also work with Miro’s Docs, tables, diagrams, mind maps, prototypes, and other canvas formats.

The platform provides AI-powered summarization and information synthesis. Miro AI can analyze collections of sticky notes, comments, and other board content to identify important themes, summarize discussions, and suggest actionable next steps. This can be particularly useful after workshops, brainstorming sessions, customer research, interviews, and collaborative meetings where large amounts of qualitative information have been collected.

Miro AI also supports diagramming and process mapping. Users can describe a process or system in natural language and generate editable diagrams such as flowcharts, UML diagrams, and entity-relationship diagrams. Miro AI can also convert certain diagram images into editable diagrams, allowing teams to continue refining the result directly on the canvas.

Another capability is AI-powered clustering. Miro AI can group related sticky notes using information such as keywords and sentiment. This is useful for affinity mapping, thematic analysis, customer research, brainstorming, and other activities where teams need to organize large collections of qualitative information.

Miro AI also includes content refinement and translation. Users can change the tone of text, correct grammar and spelling, restructure information, and translate canvas content. Miro’s current help documentation states that Miro AI Translate supports translation into 17 languages.

Miro has expanded beyond individual AI actions through AI Workflows. These include Sidekicks and Flows. Sidekicks are specialized AI agents that work alongside teams on the canvas. They can analyze content, provide guidance, and create outputs based on the team’s context. Flows are visual, multi-step AI workflows that can transform canvas information into deliverables such as prototypes, documents, diagrams, and other outputs.

Sidekicks are particularly important to Miro’s newer AI strategy. Instead of simply generating an answer, Sidekicks are designed to work directly inside the Miro environment and create or modify canvas content. They can work with formats such as frames, timelines, Kanban boards, diagrams, and other visual structures according to the task.

Miro also provides AI Playbooks for structured workflows. Examples include planning and strategy, product development, rapid prototyping, competitor analysis, process transformation, research synthesis, technical architecture, brand campaign creation, and service blueprinting. These workflows demonstrate how Miro AI can support complete collaborative processes rather than isolated content-generation tasks.

The platform’s Connectors extend AI capabilities beyond information stored directly on a Miro board. Miro Connectors can bring information from corporate systems such as Slack, Jira, dashboards, meeting transcripts, and other tools into Sidekicks and Flows. Miro states that its broader ecosystem integrates with more than 250 tools.

Miro also provides an MCP server, allowing external AI tools and agents to work with Miro content. Current integrations include tools and agents such as Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, and other MCP-compatible systems. This allows external AI systems to access visual context and interact with Miro rather than limiting AI work to Miro’s own interface.

Security and governance are important components of Miro AI’s enterprise positioning. Miro provides access controls, administrative controls, regional data hosting, and enterprise security capabilities. Its AI platform also includes controls designed to protect sensitive content and manage how AI capabilities are used across an organization. The current AI overview highlights automatic sensitive-content blocking, data residency across four regions, and ISO 42001 certification.

Miro AI is therefore particularly useful for teams that already use visual collaboration as part of their work. Product managers can use it for roadmaps, requirements, and prototypes. Designers can use it for wireframes, user journeys, and research synthesis. Engineers can use it for architecture diagrams and technical documentation. Marketing teams can use it for campaign planning and customer research, while business teams can use it for workshops, planning, process mapping, and strategic analysis.

The combination of collaborative canvas content, AI generation, AI agents, multi-step workflows, external connectors, and MCP integrations makes Miro AI broader than a conventional AI whiteboard feature. It is increasingly positioned as an AI-powered teamwork environment where humans and AI agents can work together on the same visual workspace.

Pricing

Miro currently offers Free, Starter, Business, and Enterprise plans. The Free plan costs $0. Starter costs $8 per member per month when billed annually, while Business costs $20 per member per month when billed annually. Enterprise uses custom pricing and starts from 30 members. Annual billing saves 20% compared with monthly billing on Starter and Business.

AI usage is measured through AI credits. Current Miro documentation lists 25 AI credits per month on Free, 25 credits per license per month on Starter, and 50 credits per license per month on Business. Enterprise allocations vary by license tier. AI credits are pooled across the organization and refresh monthly without rolling over. Additional credit packages can be purchased on eligible paid plans.

The Business plan includes the broader AI Workflows and agents experience, while Enterprise provides organization-level AI administration, larger AI allocations, advanced security, regional data hosting, SCIM, and other enterprise controls.

Review

Miro AI is a strong option for teams that already use collaborative visual workspaces and want AI to become part of their existing planning, design, research, and documentation processes. Its biggest advantage is the way AI works with the context already present on the canvas rather than forcing users to start every AI task from an empty prompt.

The combination of content generation, summarization, clustering, diagram generation, translation, AI agents, and AI workflows gives Miro AI a broad range of applications. Teams can move from brainstorming to research synthesis, planning, diagramming, prototyping, and documentation without leaving the same workspace.

The introduction of Sidekicks and Flows also makes Miro AI more capable than a basic collection of generative AI commands. Sidekicks can work as specialized AI agents, while Flows provide repeatable multi-step workflows that teams can visualize and improve.

Its large integration ecosystem is another major advantage. Miro states that it connects with more than 250 tools, including major productivity, project-management, development, communication, and AI platforms. This makes it easier for organizations to connect Miro with the systems already used by their teams.

However, Miro AI is not primarily a general-purpose conversational AI assistant. Its greatest value comes from collaborative visual work, so users who mainly want text generation, standalone research, or traditional data analysis may find other AI platforms more specialized.

AI credits are another consideration. Although Miro offers AI capabilities on its Free plan, usage is limited and paid plans allocate credits according to the number of seats. Organizations using AI heavily may therefore need additional credits or a higher plan.

Miro AI is best suited to product teams, designers, researchers, marketers, engineers, consultants, educators, and organizations that rely on visual collaboration. Its combination of an intelligent canvas, AI agents, workflows, integrations, and collaborative editing makes it particularly useful for turning team ideas and information into structured outputs and repeatable workflows.
