Relay.app

Relay.app was an AI-powered workflow automation platform designed to help businesses automate recurring work across their software tools while keeping people involved when human judgment or approval was required. Founded in 2021 and headquartered in San Francisco, Relay.app combined no-code workflow automation, built-in AI capabilities, conditional logic, and Human-in-the-Loop steps in a single platform.

The platform was designed primarily for workplace automation and supported users ranging from solopreneurs and freelancers to small businesses and teams within larger companies. Relay.app focused particularly on recurring processes that involved multiple applications, rather than one-off tasks that could be handled by a conventional chatbot.

One of Relay.app’s main capabilities was its visual workflow builder. Users could create multi-step automations that connected different applications and performed actions automatically. Workflows could include triggers, actions, conditional paths, data transformations, and other logic, allowing users to automate processes that were more complex than simple trigger-and-action recipes.

A defining feature was Human-in-the-Loop automation. Instead of requiring every part of a workflow to run automatically, Relay.app allowed a workflow to pause and request approval, information, or another action from a person before continuing. This made the platform particularly useful for processes where automation needed human oversight, such as approving content, reviewing customer information, assigning tasks, or confirming important business actions.

Relay.app also incorporated AI directly into workflows. Users could use AI steps to process information, generate content, classify data, summarize material, or perform other AI-assisted operations. The platform supported AI models including GPT, Claude, and Gemini, with AI usage measured separately from workflow steps.

Another important capability was conditional workflow logic. Relay.app allowed users to create paths within workflows and continue automation after branching, which could reduce the need to duplicate the same actions across multiple branches. It also supported calling one workflow from another, making it possible to build reusable automation components.

The platform supported more than 100 integrations across business applications. Examples included Google Workspace, Gmail, Slack, Notion, HubSpot, Salesforce, Jira, Airtable, Attio, Calendly, PostHog, and Discord. Custom HTTP requests and webhooks provided additional ways to connect services that did not have a dedicated integration.

Relay.app was used for a wide range of recurring business processes. Documented examples included customer onboarding, customer lifecycle management, team communication, lead qualification, CRM updates, meeting follow-ups, content repurposing, competitor monitoring, and internal administrative processes. One customer, Cometa, used Relay.app to automate a complex customer-onboarding process involving Google Workspace, Slack, Jira, and Notion.

The platform was also intended to be accessible to non-technical users. Relay.app’s documentation specifically described the product as suitable for people who did not know JSON, APIs, or LLMs, while still providing advanced capabilities such as custom code, webhooks, and HTTP requests for more technical users.

Relay.app followed a freemium SaaS model. Its last publicly documented pricing structure included a free plan, Professional and Team plans, and an Enterprise option. The published pricing included limits on workflow steps and AI credits, with higher plans increasing usage limits and collaboration features.

However, Relay.app is no longer an operating product. In July 2026, the company announced that it would wind down the service. Free customer access ended in August 2026, while paying customers retained access until September 14, 2026. The official website subsequently confirmed that the platform shut down in September 2026 and that accounts, workflows, and run history were permanently deleted.

Pricing

Relay.app’s last publicly documented pricing included four tiers:

  • Free: $0/month, with 200 workflow steps and 500 AI credits per month for one user.
  • Professional: $19/month, with 750 steps and 5,000 AI credits per month for one user.
  • Team: $59/month in some published 2026 pricing records, with 2,000 steps, 5,000 AI credits, and up to 10 users.
  • Enterprise: Custom pricing, with custom usage limits, integrations, support, and enterprise capabilities.

Some later third-party records list the Team plan at $69/month, indicating that pricing changed during the product’s final period. Because Relay.app is now shut down, these figures should be treated as historical rather than current purchasable prices.

Review

Relay.app’s central distinction was its combination of workflow automation, AI, and human approval steps. Rather than treating automation as something that must run entirely without intervention, the platform allowed people to remain part of important decisions.

Its visual workflow builder was designed for users with different levels of technical experience. Simple workflows could be created without programming, while more advanced users could use paths, webhooks, HTTP requests, custom code, and reusable workflows.

The integration ecosystem was another important part of the product. Relay.app connected common workplace applications such as Gmail, Slack, Notion, Google Workspace, HubSpot, Salesforce, Jira, Airtable, and other services. Its HTTP capabilities could also be used when a particular application lacked a native connector.

Customer examples demonstrated applications in onboarding, customer lifecycle management, marketing, finance, administration, sales, and HR. Cometa, for example, reported reducing customer onboarding from approximately one month to two or three days after automating a complex process with Relay.app.

The platform also had limitations. Its smaller integration ecosystem was a consideration compared with mature automation platforms with thousands of connectors. Pricing was usage-based, meaning active workflows could consume steps and AI credits quickly. The platform was also designed primarily for business automation rather than as an open-source, self-hosted automation system.

Most importantly for a current directory, Relay.app is no longer available as an operating service. Its shutdown means the product’s historical capabilities and pricing can be documented, but users can no longer create new Relay.app accounts or run its workflows.
