Rephrase.ai was a generative AI video platform that enabled businesses and creators to produce professional presenter-led videos from text. Instead of requiring traditional filming equipment, actors, studios, or extensive video-production expertise, the platform used AI-generated digital avatars and synthetic voices to transform written scripts into videos.
The platform was developed around the idea of making personalized video communication easier to produce at scale. Users could provide text, select a digital avatar, choose a voice and language, and generate a video in which the avatar delivered the supplied message. Rephrase.ai’s technology was aimed particularly at enterprise communication, marketing, sales, customer experience, education, and learning and development.
One of the platform’s major products was Rephrase Studio, its text-to-video generation environment. Rephrase Studio allowed organizations to convert existing written content into videos using AI presenters and voiceovers. When the service formally launched out of beta in October 2023, it offered more than 50 AI avatars representing different ages, ethnicities, genders, and presentation styles. Organizations could also create custom corporate avatars for branded video production.
Rephrase.ai also supported video personalization. Its technology could generate customized videos for individual recipients or customer segments, making it useful for marketing campaigns and sales communication. Personalized video capabilities could be connected to distribution channels such as email, messaging, QR codes, microsites, and applications through its API-based infrastructure.
The platform was also used for large-scale business applications. Rephrase.ai reported that its technology had been used by organizations including Microsoft, IBM, Castrol, Xiaomi, Mondelez, Amazon, and Johnson & Johnson. Its documented applications included customer education, product marketing, training, sales communication, and large-scale conversion of product descriptions into video.
Another important capability was multilingual video production. At the time of the Rephrase Studio launch, the company stated that its avatar voiceovers supported more than 100 languages and accents. Earlier documentation and company coverage had already described support for dozens of languages, including English, Hindi, German, Japanese, French, and Spanish.
Rephrase.ai also emphasized natural-looking avatar performance. Its system combined synthesized speech with lip synchronization and facial and body movements. The company highlighted features such as hand movements, eyebrow movements, human-like pauses, and avatar customization as part of its effort to make synthetic presenters appear more natural.
For enterprises and developers, Rephrase.ai provided API access. This allowed organizations to incorporate AI video generation into their own applications and workflows instead of creating every video manually through the dashboard. Its enterprise offering also emphasized security and compliance, including ISO and SOC 2 compliance at the time of the Rephrase Studio launch.
The company was founded by Ashray Malhotra, Nisheeth Lahoti, and Shivam Mangla. Sources differ slightly on the founding date: company and business databases generally identify 2019, while some reporting describes the startup as founded in 2018. A May 2019 company launch date is also recorded by Dealroom. For directory purposes, 2019 is the more consistently documented year.
Rephrase.ai is no longer an independent AI video service. Adobe acquired Rephrase.ai in November 2023, with Adobe stating that the Rephrase team’s generative AI video and audio expertise would contribute to Adobe’s creative applications. The acquisition means the original Rephrase.ai product should now be treated as a historical AI video platform rather than an active standalone service.
Rephrase.ai’s historical pricing included several products and plans:
Historical pricing sources indicate that Rephrase Studio’s Starter plan included around 10 credits per month, with one credit corresponding to up to one minute of video. Personalized-video plans used a different credit structure based on contacts and campaigns.
These are historical prices only. Rephrase.ai was acquired by Adobe in 2023 and is no longer available as an independent subscription service.
Rephrase.ai was an early enterprise-focused AI video platform that concentrated on turning text into videos featuring digital human presenters. Its strongest differentiator was its emphasis on personalized and scalable video rather than simply creating individual avatar videos.
The platform could reduce the traditional production requirements associated with presenter-led videos. A company could prepare a script, choose an avatar, select a voice, and generate content without arranging a filming session. This made the technology relevant to organizations that needed recurring training, sales, customer education, or marketing videos.
Its personalization capabilities were particularly relevant to marketing and sales teams. Instead of creating one generic video, organizations could use variable information to generate customized versions for different recipients or audiences. The platform’s API also made it possible to integrate this capability into existing applications and communication workflows.
Language support was another significant capability. Rephrase.ai reported more than 100 languages and accents for Rephrase Studio, allowing organizations to produce localized presenter videos for international audiences.
The platform’s limitations included its enterprise orientation and pricing structure. Some advanced capabilities, including custom actors and API-based bulk production, were aimed at enterprise customers rather than casual users. Historical pricing also made it more suitable for organizations with recurring commercial video-production needs than for occasional personal use.
The biggest consideration today, however, is product availability. Adobe acquired Rephrase.ai in November 2023, and the original standalone service is no longer operating as an independent platform. Its technology and team became part of Adobe’s broader generative-AI efforts.
