Rokoko Vision is an AI-powered motion-capture tool that converts ordinary video footage into 3D character animation. It is designed to make motion capture more accessible to animators, game developers, filmmakers, digital artists, educators and other creators who want to capture human movement without purchasing specialist motion-capture suits or attaching tracking markers to a performer. By using footage recorded with a standard camera, the software estimates body movement and converts it into animation data that can be applied to a 3D character.
Originally introduced in 2023, Rokoko Vision has since evolved into Vision 3.0, a substantially rebuilt version of the company’s video-based motion-capture technology. Since July 16, 2026, Vision has been integrated into Rokoko Create, the company’s browser-based motion-creation platform. It is therefore no longer presented as a separate standalone application. Users now access its video-to-motion functionality through Rokoko Create, with additional editing and animation tools available through Rokoko Studio.
One of the main advantages of Rokoko Vision is that it does not require dedicated motion-capture hardware. Users can record a movement with a phone, webcam or another suitable camera, then upload the video to Rokoko Create for processing. The AI system analyses the footage and estimates the performer’s body movement, producing animation data that can be previewed and transferred into the wider Rokoko workflow. This makes it useful for people who want to experiment with motion capture without investing in a complete hardware setup.
Vision 3.0 introduces a rebuilt monocular motion-capture solver, which processes footage from a single camera. Rokoko describes this updated system as producing cleaner animation, more stable tracking and faster processing than the earlier version. The improved workflow is intended to reduce joint noise and unwanted movement in captured animation, helping creators spend less time correcting motion before using it in a project. The new system also focuses on making it easier to record, process, review and repeat animation takes during production.
The typical workflow involves four main stages. First, the user prepares a video showing the movement they want to capture. Second, they upload the footage to Rokoko Create. Third, the generated motion data can be imported into Rokoko Studio for viewing, editing and further refinement. Finally, the animation can be exported for use in compatible 3D software. This process gives creators a way to turn real-world movement into reusable character animation without manually animating every body position.
Rokoko Vision is particularly useful for creating basic human movements, including walking, gestures, standing poses and other body actions. It can support animation blocking, character movement references, game-development prototypes and early visualisation for film projects. Animators can use recorded performances as a starting point and then adjust the resulting motion to suit their characters and scenes. The technology can also help educators demonstrate the relationship between human movement and digital character animation.
An important part of the updated ecosystem is Rokoko Studio. Although Vision handles video-based motion extraction through Rokoko Create, Studio provides tools for working with the resulting animation. Users can inspect captured motion, apply supported cleanup filters, adjust movement, create loop segments and retarget animation to custom characters on eligible plans. Retargeting allows motion data to be applied to a different character skeleton, making it easier to use captured performances across different 3D projects.
The platform supports custom character workflows through compatible character files and skeleton mapping options. Paid plans provide access to custom character importing and retargeting, while the free Starter plan provides access to default character meshes. This distinction is important for creators who want to use their own models rather than the characters supplied with the software. The available cleanup and export features also depend on the selected Rokoko subscription.
Rokoko Vision supports animation exports through Rokoko Studio. The Starter plan includes FBX export, while paid plans provide additional export options, including BVH. CSV export is available on higher-tier plans. FBX and BVH files can be used in a variety of animation and 3D production applications, allowing users to move captured motion into their existing workflows. Supported skeleton options include Mixamo, HumanIK and Unreal Engine character rigs.
The wider Rokoko ecosystem includes integrations with several established 3D applications. These include Blender, Unreal Engine, Unity, Autodesk Maya, Cinema 4D, MotionBuilder, Houdini and iClone. The native Rokoko Studio plugins support real-time motion-capture streaming from compatible Rokoko hardware. Vision’s video-generated animation follows a different workflow: users process their footage, refine the resulting data and export the animation for use in their preferred application. This distinction matters because Vision itself does not provide the same real-time capture experience as Rokoko’s dedicated motion-capture hardware.
Rokoko Vision 3.0 also brings video-to-motion and text-to-motion generation into the same Rokoko Create environment. This gives users more than one way to produce character movement. They can upload a video to generate motion from a recorded performance or use a written description to create a movement sequence. The generated clips can then be brought into Rokoko Studio for further work. Text-to-motion is a separate capability within Rokoko Create, rather than a feature exclusive to Vision’s video-based capture system.
The updated version has some limitations that users should understand. Vision 3.0 currently focuses on single-performer body tracking and does not provide finger tracking. It also does not offer the same level of real-time performance capture as Rokoko’s inertial motion-capture equipment. Video-based capture requires processing before the animation is ready, and results depend on the quality of the footage. If the performer’s body parts are hidden, outside the camera frame or difficult for the system to distinguish, tracking accuracy can be affected. Clear framing, suitable lighting and an unobstructed view of the performer are therefore important for obtaining useful results.
Some earlier features have also been retired as part of the transition to Vision 3.0. Dual-camera motion capture and online webcam capture were scheduled for retirement on August 16, 2026. The current workflow is based on uploading recorded video footage to Rokoko Create and processing it through the updated single-camera system. Users familiar with the previous version should therefore understand that some older recording options are no longer part of the current product experience.
Rokoko Vision is available through a free Starter plan, which includes a limited monthly allowance for AI video processing. Users who need more processing time can move to a paid Rokoko subscription. Higher plans provide additional capture allowances, custom character retargeting, export options, cloud storage and other Studio capabilities. The pricing structure applies to the broader Rokoko software ecosystem, so it should not be interpreted as a separate subscription price for Vision alone.
The platform is operated by Rokoko, a Danish motion-capture technology company founded in 2014 and headquartered in Copenhagen. Its wider product range includes motion-capture suits, gloves, face-capture tools and software for creating digital character animation. Vision provides an accessible video-based entry point into this ecosystem, while the company’s hardware products serve creators and studios that require more detailed or real-time motion capture.
Rokoko Vision is suitable for independent animators, game developers, film and visual-effects teams, educational institutions and researchers exploring human movement. Its ability to turn ordinary video into reusable animation data makes it useful for prototyping, reference capture and character-animation workflows. However, creators working on complex performances, detailed finger movement or multiple performers may need more specialised capture equipment.
Rokoko Vision is included in the broader Rokoko Create and Studio subscription ecosystem. The published plans provide the following options:
Rokoko Vision is a practical option for creators who want to experiment with 3D motion capture without investing in specialist equipment. Its ability to generate character animation from ordinary video footage makes it accessible to independent animators, students and small production teams. The rebuilt Vision 3.0 solver and its integration into Rokoko Create also provide a more organised workflow for generating, reviewing and refining motion data.
One of its strongest advantages is the connection between video-based capture and Rokoko Studio. Rather than limiting users to downloading a basic animation file, the wider ecosystem provides tools for editing, cleanup, retargeting and exporting motion for different production applications. The free Starter plan is also useful for testing the workflow, although its monthly processing allowance is limited.
The main disadvantages involve capture limitations and subscription restrictions. Vision depends on clear video footage, and hidden or poorly tracked body parts can affect the resulting animation. It does not currently provide finger tracking or the same real-time performance capture capabilities as Rokoko’s dedicated hardware. Users who need custom character retargeting, additional export formats or substantial processing time will also need a paid plan.
Rokoko Vision is worth considering for animation blocking, movement references, game-development prototypes and other projects that benefit from accessible video-based motion capture. Its value is strongest for creators who want a convenient starting point for character animation and are comfortable refining generated motion before using it in a finished production.
