StormAI is designed to work as an AI co-collaborator inside Stormboard, helping teams with the parts of brainstorming and collaborative planning that can take the most time. Rather than functioning as a separate chatbot where users have to repeatedly explain their situation, StormAI uses information already available in a Stormboard—including the Storm goal, section headings, sticky notes, and other workspace data—to generate suggestions that fit the team’s current activity.
One of its main uses is getting a collaborative session started. StormAI can generate a customized template based on the objective of a Storm and additional context supplied by the team. Users can choose an objective, provide more information about what they want to accomplish, and optionally have StormAI generate initial sticky-note ideas for the sections it creates. The resulting template can then be reviewed, modified, or replaced before the team begins working with it.
Once a workspace is underway, StormAI can continue contributing ideas based on the context already collected. Its idea generator can create five new sticky-note ideas for a section by considering the Storm goal, section headings, existing sticky notes, and other relevant information. Teams can add individual suggestions to the workspace or add the generated ideas together. If the suggestions are not useful, another batch can be generated.
StormAI can also help when a team wants to explore an existing idea further. Selecting an individual text sticky note and choosing Expand on Idea generates five related ideas. The same concept can be applied to an entire group, allowing teams to generate additional ideas around a particular group topic rather than starting from scratch. This makes the feature useful for exploring alternatives, challenging an initial direction, and continuing a brainstorming session when participants run out of ideas.
The AI is also useful after ideas have been collected. StormAI can summarize selected text sticky notes and allows the generated summary to be adjusted to be shorter, longer, more casual, or more professional. It can also organize multiple ideas by common themes or sentiment, reducing the manual effort involved in sorting a large brainstorming board and helping teams identify recurring topics or overall reactions.
StormAI’s contextual approach is one of the main distinctions Stormboard emphasizes. The system does not consider an individual sticky note in isolation; it can use the surrounding workspace, including the template, goal, sections, and other ideas, to understand what the team is working on. This allows the AI suggestions to be more closely related to the actual project or workshop rather than simply responding to a single word or isolated prompt.
The feature can therefore support several stages of a collaborative workflow: before a meeting, it can help create a structure and prepare initial material; during a session, it can provide additional ideas and perspectives; and afterward, it can summarize and organize the information generated by participants. Stormboard positions this as augmentation of human collaboration, with the AI providing suggestions while the team remains responsible for reviewing ideas and making decisions.
Privacy is also an important part of StormAI’s implementation. Stormboard states that information sent to its AI service partners is protected by a personally identifiable information (PII) filter, which teams can enable through their StormAI settings. StormAI data is encrypted when sent to AI service partners, and Stormboard states that the data is not used to train AI models. Information used by StormAI may be retained for up to 30 days in a dedicated environment and is restricted to authorized employees for debugging and investigating potential misuse.
Access is currently tied to Stormboard’s paid offerings: StormAI is available to users on Enterprise plans, while Business users can receive a 30-day StormAI trial. Team Administrators can enable or disable StormAI for their team and can control the PII-filtering setting.
Overall, StormAI is best understood as an AI layer built around collaborative whiteboarding rather than a standalone general-purpose assistant. Its strongest use cases are creating workshop structures, generating and expanding ideas, organizing brainstorming results, summarizing team input, and helping groups turn collaborative discussions into more structured outcomes.
