Zoom AI Companion

Zoom AI Companion is Zoom’s AI-powered workplace assistant, designed to help users capture meeting information, understand conversations, create content, find information, automate repetitive work, and complete tasks across Zoom Workplace and connected applications. Zoom introduced AI Companion in September 2023 as the successor to Zoom IQ’s generative AI capabilities, making it available at no additional cost to eligible customers with paid Zoom services. Since its launch, the product has expanded from meeting summaries and writing assistance into a broader AI system covering meetings, chat, email, documents, whiteboards, phone calls, scheduling, workflows, knowledge retrieval, and agentic task execution.

A significant change occurred in June 2026. Zoom retired the AI Companion product name as a standalone brand and moved its capabilities directly into Zoom Workplace. Zoom states that features previously associated with AI Companion, such as meeting summaries, smart compose, transcription, call summaries, and voicemail prioritization, remain available but are now generally identified by their individual functions. ZoomMate is the newer agentic product that builds on the Custom AI Companion technology and is designed to take action across connected applications. For directory purposes, Zoom AI Companion remains a useful name for identifying the AI feature family that originated in 2023.

One of the most established capabilities is AI meeting summarization. Zoom can analyze meeting conversations and produce summaries, key points, decisions, and next steps. This reduces the need for participants to take detailed notes while a meeting is taking place. AI Companion can also answer questions during meetings, allowing users to catch up on parts of a discussion they missed without interrupting the speaker. Smart recording adds highlights, chapters, summaries, next steps, and conversation analytics to recorded meetings.

Zoom has expanded AI note-taking beyond traditional Zoom meetings through My Notes. My Notes can capture conversations from Zoom meetings, in-person discussions, and third-party meeting platforms such as Microsoft Teams and Google Meet. It can generate transcripts, key takeaways, summaries, and action items, and can connect notes with workflows so that follow-up emails or tasks can be created automatically. This makes the feature useful for employees who participate in meetings across multiple platforms.

Another major capability is AI-powered writing and content creation. AI Companion can draft and refine Zoom Chat messages, generate email responses, create content for Zoom Docs and Whiteboard, and help users transform meeting information into structured documents. Zoom’s newer web experience also includes Writing Mode, which can use meeting notes and documents as context when creating business documents such as project plans or executive summaries.

Zoom AI Companion also provides AI-powered search and knowledge retrieval. The web experience can use meetings, documents, files, chats, and connected data sources as context. Agentic retrieval can search across sources such as Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, while enterprise integrations can extend retrieval to services including Salesforce, ServiceNow, Box, Workday, Confluence, SharePoint, Zendesk, and other business systems. Deep Research Mode is available with Custom AI Companion for more extensive analysis across multiple documents and meetings.

Automation is another important part of the platform. AI Companion can identify tasks from workplace conversations and help users manage follow-up activities. Personal workflows allow users to automate recurring processes using natural-language instructions and templates. Agentic capabilities can go further by reasoning about a task, selecting appropriate tools, and executing actions across connected applications. Zoom has also introduced scheduling capabilities that can coordinate with participants, handle availability conflicts, communicate through chat and email, and help organize meetings.

The platform has also developed custom AI and agent capabilities for organizations. Custom AI Companion allows administrators to connect company knowledge sources, create custom meeting-summary templates, build custom agents, and connect business applications. AI Studio provides a management environment for configuring knowledge collections, custom dictionaries, AI behavior, and other organizational settings. Custom agents can use technologies such as MCP to interact with external systems and automate workflows.

Zoom AI Companion supports a broad integration ecosystem. Depending on the feature and license, it can work with applications such as Salesforce, ServiceNow, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive, SharePoint, Confluence, Box, Zendesk, Workday, Slack, Jira, Asana, Coda, Notion, Linear, PagerDuty, HubSpot, Gmail, Outlook, and Google Calendar. These integrations allow AI to search information, summarize records, update systems, create tasks, manage documents, and automate workflows.

Language support is another strong aspect of the platform. Zoom’s AI features currently support a large collection of languages, although the exact languages available depend on the particular AI feature. The AI chat panel supports languages including Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Persian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, and several additional languages. Meeting questions and other AI features have their own supported-language lists.

Privacy is an important part of Zoom’s AI positioning. Zoom states that customer audio, video, chat, screen sharing, attachments, and other communications content are not used to train Zoom’s or third-party AI models. Organizations can also control which AI features are enabled and which external data sources are connected.

Zoom AI Companion is therefore best understood as an evolving AI workplace productivity and automation system rather than simply a meeting summarizer. Its development has moved from meeting assistance toward knowledge retrieval, content creation, workflow automation, third-party application integration, and agentic task execution. Its strongest value comes from combining meeting and workplace context with the ability to turn conversations into documents, tasks, summaries, schedules, and actions.

Pricing

Zoom AI Companion was originally introduced as an AI capability included at no additional cost with eligible paid Zoom services. That model remains important for users with eligible paid Zoom Workplace plans. Zoom also introduced a standalone AI Companion option for users who want the AI capabilities without purchasing a paid Zoom Workplace license.

The current standalone AI Companion offering is $10 per user per month. Zoom also provides limited AI access to some free Zoom Basic users, while eligible paid Zoom Workplace users receive core AI capabilities at no additional charge. Specialized capabilities, custom configurations, and some third-party integrations can require additional licensing.

Custom AI Companion is positioned as an advanced paid capability for organizations that need custom agents, company knowledge connections, custom workflows, third-party application access, and additional AI customization. It requires an eligible Zoom Workplace plan, with pricing handled separately from the core included AI capabilities.

Review

Zoom AI Companion has developed considerably beyond its original meeting-summary functionality. Its main advantage is that AI is embedded directly into the Zoom environment, allowing information from meetings, chats, documents, calendars, and other workplace activities to become usable context for AI-assisted work.

Meeting summaries and My Notes are particularly practical for teams that hold frequent meetings. Users can concentrate on conversations while AI captures the important information, identifies action items, and creates summaries. The ability to use My Notes across Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, and in-person conversations also makes the system more useful for people who work across different meeting environments.

The newer agentic functionality broadens its usefulness. Instead of simply answering a question, AI Companion can help execute tasks, schedule meetings, generate documents, search connected applications, and automate workflows. This makes it more relevant to business operations, project management, sales, customer support, and administrative work.

Its integration ecosystem is another significant advantage. Connecting Salesforce, Slack, Jira, Asana, Google Drive, OneDrive, ServiceNow, Workday, Zendesk, and other systems means users can access information without constantly switching applications. However, many of these advanced third-party capabilities depend on Custom AI Companion or specific licensing requirements.

The main limitation is the complexity of Zoom’s evolving AI product structure. The AI Companion name has been retired, while many capabilities continue under individual Zoom Workplace features and newer products such as ZoomMate. This can make it harder for users to understand exactly which AI capability they receive with a particular Zoom license.

Feature availability also varies by plan, region, administrator settings, and product. Some advanced capabilities require Custom AI Companion or other paid services. Users should therefore check their particular Zoom Workplace subscription before assuming every AI feature is included.

Another consideration is that AI-generated summaries, research, and task suggestions should still be reviewed before important business decisions are made. Zoom provides extensive AI capabilities, but generated information can still require human verification.

For organizations already using Zoom Workplace extensively, Zoom AI Companion provides a convenient way to add AI assistance directly to meetings, communications, documents, and workflows. Its transition toward agentic AI and connected applications also gives it broader workplace-automation capabilities than its original meeting-assistant role.
