Hour One Character

Hour One Character was an AI video creation platform designed around realistic virtual presenters and digital characters. It enabled users and businesses to create professional presenter-led videos without recording a person on camera, hiring a production crew, or using traditional video-editing workflows. Users could select an AI character, choose a voice and template, enter a script, and generate a finished video.

The platform was particularly focused on business communication, training, learning and development, marketing, onboarding, customer communication, and other professional video applications. Its virtual presenters were designed to deliver scripted content with synchronized speech, facial movement, and presentation-style gestures.

Hour One provided a library of pre-made AI characters and templates, allowing users to create videos for different business scenarios. Enterprise customers could also request studio-grade custom avatars representing a particular person or brand. Custom avatars were intended for organizations that wanted a consistent virtual presenter, such as an executive, trainer, HR representative, or other company spokesperson. Custom avatar creation was an Enterprise feature and required a separate production process.

The platform also included tools for turning written material into video. Its Video Wizard helped users create customized video templates, while Script Wizard assisted with script creation. A Translation Wizard was available for multilingual video production, making the platform suitable for organizations producing training or communication content for audiences in different regions.

Hour One supported extensive voice-language coverage. Its documented language selection included English variants for the US, UK, Australia, India, Canada, South Africa, and Ireland, as well as languages such as Arabic, Chinese Mandarin, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Hindi, Italian, Dutch, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese, and many others.

For organizations with larger production requirements, Hour One offered workflow automation and API functionality. Its REST API was designed for Enterprise customers and allowed automated video generation using variables such as names, job roles, and company names. API requests could control elements including the character, voice, colors, titles, media, transcript, music, and logo. This made the platform suitable for generating personalized videos at scale.

Hour One also emphasized business-oriented security and workflow capabilities. Historical product materials highlighted integrations with LMS and CRM environments, while the platform supported collaboration, templates, branding controls, subtitles, voice cloning, and video editing.

The standalone Hour One platform is no longer available as an active service. Wix announced the acquisition of Hour One in May 2025, and subsequent reporting indicates that the standalone platform was discontinued. Therefore, Hour One Character is best treated as a historical AI avatar/video-generation product rather than a currently available independent service.

Pricing

Hour One historically offered a free trial/free version followed by paid Lite, Business, and Enterprise plans. The last commonly documented pricing included:

• Free Trial: $0, with up to 3 minutes of published video, link sharing, limited seats, and access to basic creation tools.
• Lite: Around $30/month, with annual billing historically reducing the effective monthly price to about $25.
• Business: Around $112/month, with annual billing historically reducing the effective monthly price to about $95.
• Enterprise: Custom pricing, with expanded video capacity, custom avatars, additional customization, and API access.

These prices are historical because the standalone Hour One platform has been discontinued. They should not be presented as current subscription prices.

Review

Hour One Character was designed for organizations that wanted to produce professional presenter-led videos quickly and consistently. Its strongest area was business video production, particularly training, onboarding, internal communications, customer education, and marketing content.

The combination of virtual presenters, templates, multilingual voices, scripting tools, custom avatars, and automation made it possible to produce large quantities of standardized video without conventional filming. Its API was also useful for Enterprise workflows where videos needed to be personalized automatically using changing information.

Another notable strength was its language coverage. The platform documented a large selection of languages and regional voice variants, which supported international communication and localized training content.

The main limitation was that Hour One was centered on structured presenter videos rather than unrestricted cinematic or highly creative video generation. Its production model worked particularly well when a virtual presenter was appropriate, but it was less focused on the broad generative-video capabilities offered by newer text-to-video platforms.

Because the standalone product has been discontinued, availability is now the most significant limitation for anyone evaluating Hour One Character as a new tool. Its technology and team were acquired by Wix, but this does not mean the original Hour One platform remains available for new subscriptions.
