FigJam AI

FigJam AI is the artificial intelligence layer within FigJam, Figma’s collaborative online whiteboard for brainstorming, meetings, workshops, planning, diagramming, research, and team collaboration. It brings generative AI into the visual workspace so teams can create boards, diagrams, mind maps, timelines, organize ideas, summarize discussions, rewrite content, translate text, and automate repetitive tasks without leaving the FigJam canvas.

FigJam AI is designed around the idea of helping teams spend less time preparing and organizing collaborative work and more time discussing ideas and making decisions. Users can describe what they want in natural language, and FigJam AI can generate a starting board or visual structure that can then be edited manually. This makes the AI particularly useful for meeting preparation, workshops, brainstorming sessions, retrospectives, project planning, and other activities that normally require substantial manual setup.

One of its main capabilities is AI-powered board generation. Users can create templates for activities such as weekly team meetings, brainstorming sessions, retrospectives, one-on-ones, and planning exercises by describing their requirements in a prompt. FigJam AI can generate the basic structure of the board, after which users can modify sections, add content, and customize the workspace.

FigJam AI also supports AI diagram generation. Users can describe a process, system, project, or organizational structure and generate visual diagrams from the description. Current FigJam AI capabilities include flowcharts, mind maps, Gantt charts, org charts, timelines, and other visual planning structures. These generated diagrams become part of the editable FigJam board rather than remaining as static AI-generated images.

Another important capability is sticky-note analysis. FigJam is frequently used for brainstorming, research, retrospectives, design critiques, and workshops that produce large collections of sticky notes. FigJam AI can sort selected sticky notes into thematic groups and summarize them to identify important takeaways and next steps. This can reduce the manual effort required to organize qualitative information after a collaborative session.

FigJam AI also includes Jambot, an AI-powered FigJam widget that brings ChatGPT capabilities into the whiteboard. Jambot can help users brainstorm ideas, summarize sticky notes, create visual mind maps, reframe text for a particular audience or tone, answer questions, and generate code from descriptions. This allows conversational AI to operate within the same visual workspace where teams are already collaborating.

Text transformation is another part of FigJam AI. Users can rewrite text, change its tone, shorten content, and translate text into other languages. This can be useful when preparing workshop instructions, refining research notes, adapting content for different audiences, or creating concise labels and descriptions for boards.

FigJam AI also connects with the broader Figma AI ecosystem. Figma has expanded AI capabilities across its products, including AI-powered image generation and editing, AI-assisted design workflows, Figma Make, and agentic tools. FigJam remains focused on visual collaboration and whiteboarding, while benefiting from this broader AI infrastructure.

An important newer development is the ability to use Figma with ChatGPT. Figma’s current integration allows ChatGPT users to generate editable FigJam diagrams directly from conversations. For example, users can ask ChatGPT to create a flowchart or provide a description of a system architecture, and Figma can turn that information into an editable FigJam file. This makes FigJam accessible as a visual output environment from outside the traditional FigJam interface.

Figma has also expanded FigJam’s connection to coding agents. Its 2026 updates describe FigJam as a whiteboard for coding agents, with MCP capabilities that allow AI coding tools to work with FigJam context. This is particularly useful for technical teams that want to visualize software architecture, workflows, systems, and technical concepts while working with AI-assisted development tools.

AI functionality in FigJam is built around a credit-based system. Figma states that AI credits are included with seats on its plans, with the amount depending on the plan and seat type. FigJam-specific actions such as generating templates and diagrams consume credits, while some operations such as summarizing and clustering stickies are currently listed as free AI actions. Credit consumption can change as Figma updates its models and AI features.

Figma also emphasizes that AI-generated results should be reviewed before being used for important decisions. The company’s documentation notes that AI outputs can be misleading or incorrect and should be treated as general references rather than substitutes for expert judgment or independent research.

Data handling is another consideration for organizations. Figma states that FigJam AI data is sent to OpenAI for processing and generation, while its agreement with OpenAI provides that the data is not used for model training. The data may be temporarily retained in OpenAI’s environment to provide the service.

FigJam itself is designed as an accessible collaborative whiteboard where teams can brainstorm, create decision trees and diagrams, collect research feedback, run workshops, plan meetings, and collaborate with stakeholders. FigJam AI extends these existing workflows by allowing teams to generate and organize visual content more quickly.

The platform is particularly useful for product managers, designers, researchers, marketers, educators, consultants, developers, business analysts, and project teams. Product teams can use it for roadmaps and planning, researchers can synthesize findings, designers can organize ideas and user journeys, engineers can visualize systems, and managers can prepare structured meeting and workshop boards.

Overall, FigJam AI is best understood as AI-assisted visual collaboration software rather than a standalone conversational AI platform. Its primary value comes from combining natural-language AI with an editable collaborative canvas, allowing teams to turn ideas, research, conversations, and planning requirements into structured visual work.

Pricing

FigJam is part of Figma’s broader paid-plan structure. Figma currently offers Starter, Professional, Organization, and Enterprise plans. Starter is free, while paid plans provide additional collaboration, administration, security, and AI capabilities. Figma’s current pricing page lists Professional Full seats at $16/month, Organization Full seats at $55/month, and Enterprise Full seats at $90/month when billed annually. Collab seats are $3/month on Professional and $5/month on Organization and Enterprise.

FigJam AI tools are currently available on paid plans and require a Full, Dev, or Collab seat with editing access to use the AI tools.

AI credits are included with Figma seats. Current allocations are 500 credits/month for Starter Full seats, 3,000 for Professional Full seats, 3,500 for Organization Full seats, and 4,250 for Enterprise Full seats. Dev and Collab seats receive 500 credits/month. Starter and View seats are also subject to a 150-credit daily limit.

Review

FigJam AI is a strong choice for teams that already use visual collaboration for brainstorming, workshops, research, planning, and diagramming. Its main advantage is that AI is integrated directly into the collaborative whiteboard rather than operating as a separate application.

The board-generation functionality is especially useful for reducing preparation time. Instead of manually creating frames, sections, prompts, timelines, and diagrams, users can describe the activity and receive an editable starting point. This makes FigJam AI practical for recurring meetings, retrospectives, workshops, and project planning.

Its sticky-note analysis is another useful feature. Sorting and summarizing large groups of notes can save considerable manual effort after brainstorming or research sessions, while keeping the resulting information directly on the board.

The integration with ChatGPT also makes FigJam more flexible. Users can generate editable FigJam diagrams from conversations and then continue refining them inside Figma. This creates a useful bridge between conversational AI and visual collaboration.

However, FigJam AI is primarily designed around collaborative visual work. Users looking for a general-purpose AI assistant, advanced data analysis platform, or dedicated AI writing environment may find its capabilities less suitable for those tasks.

AI credits are another consideration. Although AI credits are included with Figma seats, more intensive use can consume credits quickly, particularly for generation and agentic features. Figma allows administrators to purchase additional credits through subscription or pay-as-you-go options.

The AI output also requires human review. Figma explicitly warns that AI-generated information can be inaccurate or misleading, so important research, planning, and decision-making should not rely on generated output without verification.

For product teams, designers, researchers, educators, developers, marketers, and organizations that depend on visual collaboration, FigJam AI provides a practical combination of AI generation, brainstorming, diagramming, synthesis, and collaborative editing.
