Locofy

Locofy is an AI-powered design-to-code and frontend development platform that helps designers, developers, product teams, agencies, startups, and other builders turn digital designs into functional, developer-friendly frontend code. Its primary purpose is to shorten the distance between a finished UI design and a working web or mobile application by automating significant parts of the frontend development process.

The platform works with popular design environments including Figma, Penpot, and Adobe XD. Users can bring their designs into Locofy through its design plugins, import a Figma design URL, or use developer-focused workflows such as the Locofy CLI and Locofy MCP. The platform analyzes the structure of a design—including layouts, components, spacing, variables, responsiveness, and interactions—and converts that information into structured frontend code.

One of Locofy’s core technologies is its Large Design Models (LDMs). These models are designed to understand design intent rather than simply reproduce a screenshot. Locofy says its foundational models have been trained using large amounts of design and web data, allowing the platform to recognize components, interactive elements, layout patterns, and other characteristics of modern interfaces. The resulting code is intended to be editable and extendable rather than functioning only as a static prototype.

A major feature is Locofy Lightning, which automates the conversion of designs into frontend code. Developers and designers can select screens or components and generate code for supported frameworks. The platform can identify components and patterns and turn them into reusable code components and design tokens. It also supports responsive layouts and interactive elements, helping teams move from visual design to a working prototype more quickly.

Locofy also provides Agent Mode, which allows users to refine generated interfaces through natural-language prompts. Instead of manually making every change in the generated code, users can request adjustments such as accessibility improvements, responsive behavior, theming, internationalisation, animations, form validation, SEO improvements, and state management. This gives the platform an additional AI-assisted development layer after the initial design-to-code conversion.

The Locofy Builder provides a workspace where generated projects can be previewed and refined before being exported. Users can inspect components, configure project settings, make visual changes, use Agent Mode, and check responsive behavior. Teams can also collaborate within Builder, with multiple users able to work on the same project and changes synchronized in real time.

For developers who already have an existing codebase, Locofy provides Locofy CLI. The CLI allows generated code to be pulled directly into a local project and can use the existing project’s components and structure. Locofy states that the CLI can intelligently merge generated code with the current state of a codebase, reducing manual conflict resolution. Developers can then continue refining the generated code through interactive natural-language prompts.

Another important developer workflow is Locofy MCP. Through the Model Context Protocol, Locofy’s design-understanding capabilities can be brought directly into AI coding environments. Current documentation lists support for tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, Gemini CLI, GitHub Copilot, and other MCP-compatible clients. This allows developers to generate or refine frontend code while remaining inside their preferred AI development environment.

Locofy supports a broad selection of frontend technologies. For web projects, supported frameworks include React, Next.js, Angular, Vue, Gatsby, and HTML/CSS. For mobile development, it supports React Native, Flutter, Swift, and Jetpack Compose. Developers can also configure projects using JavaScript or TypeScript and choose styling approaches such as CSS modules, Tailwind CSS, or inline styling.

The platform can also connect existing design systems and custom components. Teams can import custom components through the Locofy CLI, GitHub, or Storybook and map those components to corresponding Figma components. This means organizations can maintain their existing component libraries rather than having Locofy recreate every UI element from scratch. Locofy notes that custom-component mapping is available on Enterprise plans and certain legacy annual self-service subscriptions.

Locofy supports several popular UI libraries, including Material UI, Bootstrap, Ant Design, and Chakra UI. This gives developers additional control over the generated frontend and can help align generated interfaces with an existing technical stack.

The platform is also positioned as a tool for rapid prototyping and web application development. Instead of creating static mockups that only demonstrate visual appearance, teams can generate live prototypes powered by actual frontend code. These prototypes can contain interactive components such as forms, dropdowns, videos, animations, and other UI behaviors. This can make it easier for teams to test ideas, collect stakeholder feedback, and validate designs before investing heavily in development.

Locofy is useful for organizations with different development workflows. Startups can use it to accelerate MVP development, agencies can use it to deliver client projects faster, designers can create working prototypes without manually coding every screen, and engineering teams can use it to reduce repetitive frontend implementation work. Locofy also explicitly markets the platform to enterprises and teams that want to integrate design-to-code into their existing development processes.

The platform is not intended to eliminate developers. Instead, its generated output is designed to provide a starting point that developers can review, modify, integrate with backend services, and continue developing. This is particularly important for larger applications where business logic, authentication, databases, APIs, testing, and other engineering requirements still need to be handled separately.

Locofy also supports continuous workflows between design and development. Its integrations with GitHub and VS Code allow teams to move generated code into existing engineering environments, while integrations with services such as Netlify and Vercel support deployment workflows. The platform can therefore fit into a broader development pipeline rather than requiring teams to build an application entirely inside Locofy.

One limitation is that the quality of generated code can depend heavily on the quality and organization of the original design. Locofy’s own troubleshooting documentation notes that designs with poor structure can result in unnecessary CSS styles or additional elements, while responsive output benefits from properly structured Figma layouts and Auto Layout. Developers should therefore expect to review and refine generated code rather than treating the output as automatically production-perfect.

Locofy is best suited to teams that want to accelerate frontend development while retaining control over the generated code and technology stack. Its combination of AI design understanding, design-to-code generation, Agent Mode, CLI, MCP, design-system support, and developer integrations makes it more than a simple visual website builder. It acts as a bridge between design systems and modern AI-assisted software development.

Pricing

Locofy’s current pricing uses LDMtokens, which are consumed by AI-powered actions such as Locofy Lightning and Agent Mode. The platform provides plan and usage information through the Locofy dashboard, where users can monitor their subscription, token usage, and billing history. A 5-day free trial is referenced in the current documentation.

Review

Locofy is a strong option for teams that want to automate the repetitive part of frontend development without abandoning their existing design and coding workflows. Its biggest advantage is the ability to move from a structured Figma, Penpot, or Adobe XD design to editable frontend code while still supporting established frameworks, UI libraries, GitHub workflows, and development environments.

The addition of Agent Mode and Locofy MCP makes the platform particularly relevant to modern AI-assisted development. Developers can generate an initial implementation from a design and then continue refining it with natural-language instructions or through AI coding environments such as Cursor, Claude Code, Windsurf, and GitHub Copilot.

Its support for existing component libraries is another significant advantage for professional teams. Rather than forcing organizations to adopt a completely new UI system, Locofy can work with existing components and design systems through CLI, GitHub, and Storybook integrations.

The main drawback is that generated code still requires engineering review. Complex applications may require substantial customization, and the quality of the result depends partly on how well the source design is structured. Teams should therefore view Locofy as a development accelerator rather than a replacement for frontend engineering.

For designers, developers, agencies, startups, and enterprises looking to reduce the manual work involved in translating designs into frontend applications, Locofy provides a flexible design-to-code workflow with strong support for modern frameworks and AI coding tools.
