CodiumAI

CodiumAI is the former name of Qodo, an AI-powered software development and code-quality platform designed to help developers and engineering teams write, test, review, and maintain software. The company was founded in 2022, initially focusing on AI-assisted test generation, and later expanded into a broader platform covering agentic coding, automated testing, pull-request review, code coverage, and software-development governance. Qodo is the current brand, while products that were previously known as CodiumAI products have been incorporated into the Qodo platform.

Qodo’s central idea is to combine AI-assisted development with mechanisms that help verify and govern the resulting code. Rather than positioning AI simply as a code generator, Qodo focuses heavily on code integrity and quality, particularly as AI coding tools increase the volume of code being produced. Its platform is designed to give engineering teams context-aware assistance throughout the software development lifecycle.

AI-assisted coding

Qodo provides an AI coding environment through its IDE experience, formerly known as Qodo Gen. The coding agent can help developers understand codebases, generate code, implement tasks, modify existing code, and work through multi-step development activities.

Qodo’s approach emphasizes codebase context rather than treating every request as an isolated code-generation task. Its Context Engine is designed to understand repository structure, dependencies, logic, coding standards, and other information so that AI-generated changes can better fit the existing project.

The platform also supports agentic workflows, allowing developers to give the AI more complex development tasks instead of limiting it to simple autocomplete or single-function generation.

AI code review

Code review is now one of Qodo’s most important capabilities. Qodo’s Git integration uses specialized AI agents to review pull requests and identify potential bugs, logic problems, requirement gaps, design deviations, standards violations, and other risks.

Unlike basic diff-based review systems, Qodo states that its review agents can analyze the full repository, repository history, and organizational standards. This allows the system to consider code outside the immediate changed lines when evaluating a pull request.

Reviews can run automatically when a pull request is created or updated. Findings are presented with explanations, severity information, and remediation suggestions. Developers can discuss findings, dismiss them, or allow Qodo to generate and apply fixes.

Code testing and coverage

Testing was the original focus of the company. Qodo’s earlier product, CodiumAI, was created to make unit-test generation easier for developers. That capability evolved into Qodo’s broader testing and code-coverage functionality.

Qodo can help generate tests, identify missing coverage, and improve test suites. The platform’s development model connects testing with coding and review so that generated code can be validated rather than simply produced and accepted.

This is particularly relevant to AI-assisted development because AI-generated code can increase development speed while simultaneously increasing the amount of code that needs to be tested.

Rules and coding standards

Qodo provides a Rules System designed to turn an organization’s coding standards and review practices into enforceable rules. Rather than keeping engineering standards only in documentation or internal wikis, teams can use Qodo to apply them consistently during development and review.

Its Rule Miner can identify recurring patterns in pull-request discussions and reviewer decisions and turn those patterns into rules. This allows organizational standards to evolve as teams review more code.

Qodo also supports custom review instructions and standards, allowing organizations to influence how AI reviews and evaluates their code.

Cross-repository intelligence

For organizations managing multiple repositories, Qodo provides cross-repository review capabilities. This allows the platform to reason about relationships between repositories and identify potential breaking changes that may not be visible when examining a single repository independently.

For example, a change to a shared library or API can potentially affect another service maintained in a different repository. Qodo’s cross-repository capabilities are intended to identify these relationships earlier in the development process.

AI-agent and MCP support

Qodo supports Model Context Protocol (MCP) tools, allowing its agentic coding environment to interact with external services and tools. Developers can configure local or remote MCP servers and make their tools available to Qodo’s agent.

The platform can therefore extend beyond the code editor and interact with external development resources when appropriately configured. Enterprise environments can also restrict which MCP tools developers are allowed to use through an organizational allow-list.

Git and IDE integration

Qodo is designed to operate across both Git-based workflows and development environments. Current documentation identifies support for GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps, and Gerrit for Enterprise, while supported IDEs include VS Code, JetBrains IDEs, and Visual Studio.

This allows teams to use Qodo without replacing their existing source-control or development environment. Qodo’s goal is to apply the same review context and standards across these different surfaces.

Enterprise security and deployment

Security and governance are major parts of Qodo’s enterprise offering. The platform states that it does not train AI models on customer code and offers zero-data-retention practices for code analysis.

Enterprise customers can access capabilities including SSO/SAML, audit logs, BYOK, governance analytics, single-tenant SaaS, on-premises deployment, and air-gapped environments. These options are intended for organizations with stricter security, compliance, and infrastructure requirements.

Qodo also states that it is SOC 2 Type II certified and supports customer-controlled model configurations in appropriate enterprise deployments.

AI development lifecycle

Qodo’s broader platform covers multiple stages of software development, including planning, coding, testing, code review, and governance. Its current positioning is increasingly centered on being a quality and governance layer for AI-assisted software development.

This makes Qodo different from a conventional AI autocomplete tool. Its focus extends beyond helping developers produce code to helping teams determine whether the resulting code is correct, compliant with standards, adequately tested, and safe to merge.

Pricing

Qodo currently uses a credit-based usage pricing model rather than a conventional per-seat pricing model.

The current Pro Team plan starts at $30/month and is designed for teams of up to 30 users. The plan uses pooled credits, with the current pricing page showing:

  • $30/month โ€” 2,500 credits, approximately 18 reviews/month
  • $60/month โ€” 5,000 credits, approximately 36 reviews/month
  • $240/month โ€” 20,000 credits, approximately 144 reviews/month
  • Additional larger credit packs are available.

Qodo provides a 14-day free trial with unlimited reviews and credits and does not require a credit card to start. The Pro Team plan has monthly billing and no annual commitment. Enterprise pricing is custom and is designed for organizations with 30+ users.

Qualified open-source projects can also apply for free access through Qodo’s open-source program.

Review

Qodo is a strong AI development and code-quality platform for engineering teams that want to adopt AI coding while maintaining control over software quality. Its biggest advantage is the combination of agentic coding, testing, code review, codebase intelligence, and governance rather than focusing exclusively on code generation.

The platform is particularly compelling for organizations with complex repositories. Its ability to analyze full repository context, review pull requests, understand dependencies, enforce organizational standards, and identify cross-repository risks gives it capabilities beyond simple AI code completion.

Its integration with major Git providers and IDEs is another strength. Teams can continue using GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps, VS Code, JetBrains, or Visual Studio instead of migrating to a completely different development environment.

The main limitation is the credit-based pricing structure. While pooled credits provide flexibility and allow teams to change packs, organizations with unpredictable review volumes need to monitor usage carefully. Credits also expire at the end of each monthly cycle.

Another consideration is that Qodo is primarily targeted at professional software-development teams. Individual developers looking only for basic autocomplete may find its broader code-quality and governance capabilities unnecessary.

Qodo is therefore best suited to software engineering teams, DevOps organizations, enterprises, and teams developing software with AI coding agents that need an independent quality layer for testing, review, standards, and governance.
