AskCodi

AskCodi is an AI-powered software development platform built around coding assistance, AI agents, multi-model access, and developer workflows. The platform has recently evolved beyond its earlier AI coding-assistant format into a broader AI engineering environment, with its current product centered on Codi, an AI engineering agent that can coordinate multiple specialist agents across a software project. AskCodi says Codi can understand a codebase, map project requirements, create tasks, assign specialist engineers, run work in parallel, review results, and bring important decisions back to the developer.

The current AskCodi experience is therefore quite different from a simple code-completion tool. A developer can describe the outcome they want in natural language, after which Codi can turn that request into a project plan and coordinate the implementation. The system can assign different roles, including backend, frontend, QA, and security specialists, allowing several tasks to progress simultaneously in isolated Git worktrees.

A key part of this workflow is project discovery. Codi can learn about an existing codebase and create a navigable project or feature graph before work begins. This allows the AI engineering workflow to be based on the structure of the project rather than treating every request as an isolated coding prompt.

AskCodi also includes a human approval workflow. Instead of requiring developers to supervise every individual operation, Codi brings decisions that need human input into an approval inbox. Developers can provide context or approve an action, and Codi routes that decision back to the appropriate task. This approach is intended to reduce the amount of manual coordination required during larger development tasks.

Another major feature is parallel development. AskCodi says specialist engineers can work simultaneously in isolated Git worktrees while Codi manages dependencies, handoffs, reviews, tests, and merges. This makes the platform particularly relevant to projects where several independent pieces of development can be completed at the same time.

The platform also provides smart model routing. Rather than requiring developers to manually select a single AI model for every task, Codi can choose models according to the type of work. Routine tasks can use more efficient models, while complex architecture or debugging work can be assigned greater reasoning capability. AskCodi also supports bringing your own provider subscription or API key.

Beyond the desktop engineering environment, AskCodi operates a multi-model AI platform. Its current API provides access to more than 50 models from providers including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI, Meta, Qwen, Kimi, and DeepSeek. Developers can access these models through a single OpenAI-compatible endpoint instead of maintaining separate integrations for every provider.

This multi-model approach is one of AskCodi’s most useful features for developers. A project can use different models for different jobs without requiring the application to be rewritten each time the underlying model changes. AskCodi’s API also supports custom agents, allowing developers to package prompts, skills, and MCP tools into reusable agents that can be called from applications or the AskCodi environment.

AskCodi’s API is OpenAI-compatible, which means applications already designed around the OpenAI API format can connect by changing the API base URL and authentication configuration. The platform supports streaming, tool calling, vision, audio, and function calling across supported models.

For developers who prefer working inside existing tools, AskCodi can be used with a range of development environments. Its current API documentation specifically lists Cursor, VS Code, Continue, Cline, Roo Code, JetBrains IDEs, Neovim, Zed, and Windsurf among supported integration options.

AskCodi also provides a browser-based AI Chat experience. The documentation describes AskCodi Chat as a browser-based AI interface supporting AI file operations and chat management. This gives developers a simpler way to interact with models without necessarily installing the desktop application.

Another component is Custom Agents. Developers can create agents with their own configurations rather than relying only on predefined assistants. This can be useful when a team needs an AI specialist focused on a particular type of development task, coding standard, workflow, or project requirement.

AskCodi also offers a Prompt system. Its prompt feature supports reusable templates with variables, allowing developers to create repeatable instructions rather than rewriting the same prompt for every task. Prompts can be configured, stacked, and reused across workflows.

For frontend development, AskCodi provides a UI Builder/Sandbox. This is a browser-based live-preview environment where AI-generated code can be edited and viewed in real time. The documentation says the environment uses Sandpack v2 from CodeSandbox and provides a React development environment directly in the browser, without requiring backend setup or API keys for the UI Builder itself.

AskCodi has also changed its underlying commercial and technical model. In September 2025, the company announced a major platform update that moved AskCodi toward an API-first architecture, with direct access to leading AI models, custom model configuration, tool integrations, and token-based pricing. Existing users of the older platform were required to migrate to the new system.

The current platform therefore combines several products in one ecosystem: Codi Desktop, browser AI Chat, Custom Agents, UI Builder, prompts, and an OpenAI-compatible model API. This broader approach makes AskCodi more than a conventional AI coding assistant; it is increasingly positioned as a development orchestration and multi-model infrastructure platform.

Pricing

AskCodi’s current pricing has separate charges for the desktop application and model/API usage.

The AskCodi Desktop App plan costs $60 per year after a 7-day free trial. The plan includes Codi project discovery, automated task creation, specialist engineer assignment, human approval workflows, multiple concurrent sessions, smart model routing, parallel local Git worktrees, reviews, testing, and structured handoffs. The subscription does not include model usage; users can instead bring their own supported provider subscription or key.

For users who want AskCodi-managed model access, the platform offers separate API plans. The current published options are API Starter at $20/month with 16 million tokens, API Pro at $100/month with 80 million tokens, and API Max at $200/month with 160 million tokens. The API plans are separate from the Desktop App subscription.

There is also a free access option for selected models. AskCodi’s terms describe a Free Plan with designated free models and a limit of 10 requests per day, while its changelog confirms that free models are available without consuming credits.

Review

AskCodi is now most compelling for developers who want an AI engineering workflow rather than a basic coding chatbot. Its ability to plan projects, delegate work to specialist agents, run tasks in parallel, review results, and let the developer intervene only when necessary gives it a distinctly orchestration-focused approach.

The multi-model API is another strong point. Instead of locking developers into one AI provider, AskCodi provides a unified OpenAI-compatible interface to models from several major providers. This can make experimentation and model switching considerably easier.

The main consideration is complexity. Someone who only wants autocomplete or occasional code generation may find AskCodi’s agent orchestration and multi-model ecosystem more than they need. The separation between the Desktop subscription and model usage also means users need to understand which part of the service they are paying for.

Verdict: AskCodi is a particularly interesting option for AI-assisted software development, autonomous coding workflows, multi-model development, project orchestration, code review, and developer automation.
