Atlassian Rovo is an AI-powered work assistant designed to help teams find information, understand organizational knowledge, and take action across their work. It combines AI-powered Search, Chat, Agents, and Rovo Studio with Atlassian’s Teamwork Graph to connect information across Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, and supported third-party applications.
Rovo is built around three main capabilities: Find, Learn, and Act. Rovo Search helps users find relevant information across Atlassian products and connected third-party applications. Rovo Chat lets users ask questions and receive contextual answers based on available organizational knowledge. Rovo Agents are configurable AI teammates that can assist with specific tasks and workflows.
Rovo Search can search across multiple applications without requiring users to switch between them. Supported connections include Atlassian products as well as third-party services such as Google Drive and Slack. Search results respect existing permissions, meaning users only receive information they are already authorized to access.
Rovo Chat provides natural-language interaction with organizational information. Users can ask questions about projects, teams, documents, and other company knowledge, while Rovo can provide contextual answers and related information. Rovo also provides knowledge cards and definitions to help users understand concepts and organizational information without leaving their workflow.
Rovo Agents are another major component of the platform. They are configurable AI teammates that can collaborate with users and help move work forward. Atlassian provides out-of-the-box agents for tasks such as documentation, writing, product management, and other workflows, while users can also create customized agents.
Rovo Studio provides a workspace for building agents, automations, and AI-powered applications. Atlassian describes Studio as a place where makers can design, automate, and connect solutions using agents, flows, and apps. This gives organizations the ability to customize Rovo for specific business processes instead of relying only on prebuilt capabilities.
Rovo also supports third-party application connectivity. Organizations can connect external data sources through supported connectors, allowing Rovo to search and work with information outside the Atlassian ecosystem. Atlassian currently documents integrations with services including Google Drive and Slack, while its third-party ecosystem continues to expand.
Security and permissions are important parts of Rovo’s design. Rovo respects the permissions of connected applications, so users are not intended to gain access to information that they could not otherwise access. Atlassian also provides controls for managing Rovo access, connectors, AI activation, and organizational usage.
Rovo is particularly useful for organizations already using Atlassian Cloud products because it can bring search, knowledge, AI assistance, and agents into existing Jira and Confluence workflows. It is therefore positioned more as an enterprise teamwork and knowledge platform than as a general-purpose standalone chatbot.
Atlassian currently includes Rovo with eligible paid Atlassian Cloud subscriptions rather than requiring customers to purchase a separate Rovo subscription in most cases. Rovo is available to customers with eligible Standard, Premium, or Enterprise Cloud plans for Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, and applicable Service and Teamwork Collections.
Atlassian currently provides Rovo usage through included Rovo credits. Atlassian states that it is not currently billing for extra usage above the included Rovo credit allowance and will provide at least 90 days’ notice before credit limits result in charges.
Subscription / Included with eligible Atlassian Cloud plans
Rovo is included with eligible paid Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, Service Collection, and Teamwork Collection Cloud subscriptions. Rovo usage is subject to included credit allowances. Atlassian currently does not charge for extra Rovo usage above the included allowance unless an organization explicitly opts in to paid additional usage.
Rovo Standard is a separate offering currently in beta. Atlassian states that after the beta, the planned Rovo Standard price is $5 per user per month per organization, while Rovo Dev has separate pricing and should not be confused with the main Rovo product.
Atlassian Rovo is a strong choice for teams that already work extensively with Jira, Confluence, and other Atlassian products. Its biggest advantage is its ability to connect organizational knowledge with AI-powered search, chat, and agents instead of forcing users to work in a separate AI application.
The unified search experience is particularly useful for teams that store information across multiple systems. Rovo can search Atlassian applications and connected third-party tools, while respecting existing permissions. This can reduce the need to manually search through different applications to locate information.
Rovo Agents add another layer of functionality by allowing teams to delegate specific tasks to configurable AI assistants. Rovo Studio extends this further by providing tools for creating agents, automations, and applications tailored to organizational workflows.
The pricing structure is also attractive for existing Atlassian customers because Rovo is included with eligible paid Cloud subscriptions rather than requiring a separate Rovo purchase. However, organizations should still pay attention to usage allowances and the distinction between Rovo and separately priced products such as Rovo Dev.
The main limitation is that Rovo delivers the greatest value inside the Atlassian ecosystem. Organizations that do not use Jira, Confluence, or other supported Atlassian products may have less reason to choose it over a standalone enterprise AI platform.
For Atlassian-focused teams that want AI-powered search, organizational knowledge discovery, workflow assistance, and configurable agents, Rovo is a well-integrated enterprise AI solution.
