Builder.io Visual Copilot is an AI-powered design-to-code and visual development tool from Builder.io that helps teams turn Figma designs, existing code, design systems, and natural-language instructions into production-ready web experiences. Rather than treating design handoff as a separate stage between designers and developers, Visual Copilot connects design and development workflows so teams can move from visual concepts to working code more quickly.
Visual Copilot’s original core capability was Figma-to-code conversion. It can import Figma designs and generate code for multiple frontend frameworks while adapting the output to a team’s preferred styling approach. Supported code targets include React, Vue, Svelte, Angular, Qwik, Solid, HTML, React Native, and other framework options available through Builder’s current code-generation tools.
One of its main advantages is its ability to work with an organization’s existing code components and design system. Instead of simply generating a generic interface from a screenshot or design file, Visual Copilot can use registered components, design tokens, patterns, and framework conventions as context. This allows generated experiences to better match an existing product rather than introducing an unrelated visual or technical style.
The platform also supports automatic responsiveness. Visual Copilot is designed to interpret Figma layouts and translate them into responsive implementations, reducing the amount of manual work developers would otherwise need to perform when adapting designs for different screen sizes. Builder introduced this capability as a central part of its Figma-to-code workflow.
Visual Copilot is not limited to simply exporting static code. Builder’s current AI platform allows users to create experiences from natural-language prompts, use custom components, connect content and data, and modify existing experiences through AI. Teams can describe the page, component, content structure, or interaction they need, and Visual Copilot can generate or modify the experience using the available components and styles.
The AI can also add interactivity to components. For example, users can describe how buttons, forms, links, and other interface elements should behave, after which Builder’s AI can generate the corresponding logic. This extends Visual Copilot beyond visual layout generation into functional interface development.
Another useful capability is style inspiration. Users can provide a website URL as a reference, allowing Builder’s AI to analyze characteristics such as visual style, typography, spacing, and color usage when creating new content. This can be useful for rapid experimentation and for generating new pages that follow an established visual direction.
For developers, Builder provides a code-generation workflow through its Visual Editor and CLI. Generated code can be copied manually into a project or synchronized into an existing codebase using Builder’s CLI. The CLI can also be used with prompts to influence stylistic and functional changes to generated designs.
Visual Copilot also works with Builder’s broader AI-agent ecosystem. Builder provides MCP servers that allow AI coding assistants to access Builder projects, Figma exports, design-system documentation, components, and code-generation context. This makes it possible for developers to use AI coding tools while keeping their organization’s design system and visual context available during implementation.
Builder’s current platform also supports collaborative workflows between engineering, design, product, marketing, and content teams. Developers can work in their existing codebase while other team members review live previews, refine visual details, edit content, and provide feedback. Changes can then return to engineering as reviewable code changes.
Visual Copilot supports both fast and quality code-generation modes. Fast generation uses Builder’s proprietary AI model and open-source Mitosis compiler to produce code quickly, while Quality generation adds an additional AI model to produce more deliberate, framework- and styling-specific output. Developers can select their framework, styling approach, language, and testing framework when generating code.
The available styling options include Tailwind CSS, standard CSS, Emotion, Styled Components, and Styled JSX. Developers can choose JavaScript or TypeScript as the code-generation language, while testing options include Jest and Vitest.
Visual Copilot is therefore particularly useful for teams that already have a frontend stack and want to reduce repetitive implementation work rather than replace their existing development environment. Its ability to work with Figma, existing components, design tokens, code repositories, AI agents, and development frameworks makes it suitable for design-to-code automation, prototyping, product development, and iterative UI work.
Builder positions Visual Copilot as part of an enterprise-ready AI platform. Its enterprise offering includes security and governance features, and Builder states that Enterprise customer data is not used to train or improve its AI models. Builder also maintains SOC 2 Type II compliance and provides enterprise workflows for organizations connecting the platform to their existing systems.
A key consideration is that AI-generated code still benefits from developer review. Visual Copilot can significantly reduce repetitive frontend implementation work, but production applications may require additional engineering for architecture, business logic, accessibility, testing, security, performance, and project-specific requirements. Its greatest value is in accelerating the transition from design and ideas to usable frontend implementations while allowing developers to retain control over the final code.
Builder.io currently offers Visual Copilot capabilities through its Fusion platform. The current Fusion pricing includes a Free plan at $0 per user/month, Pro at $24 per user/month, Team at $40 per user/month, and Enterprise with custom pricing.
The Free plan includes 60 monthly Agent Credits and supports the Figma plugin, VS Code extension, and connections with GitHub, GitLab, and Bitbucket. Pro includes 500 monthly Agent Credits per user, while Team also includes 500 monthly Agent Credits per user along with features such as custom MCP servers and Builder Agent integrations with Slack and Jira.
Additional Agent Credits are available on Pro and Team at $25 per 500 credits per month. Enterprise pricing is customized according to organizational requirements.
Builder.io Visual Copilot is one of the stronger options for teams looking to automate the transition from design to production code. Its major strength is that it does not rely solely on generic AI generation: it can use frameworks, existing components, design tokens, code, and design-system context to produce work that is more closely aligned with an organization’s existing product.
Its Figma integration is particularly valuable for design and engineering teams. Developers can import designs, choose the target framework and styling approach, generate code, and either copy the result or synchronize it into their codebase. Support for a wide range of frameworks also makes Visual Copilot more flexible than tools limited to a single frontend stack.
The addition of AI-generated experiences, natural-language editing, interactivity generation, MCP, and codebase-aware workflows makes the platform more capable than a traditional Figma-to-code converter. It can participate in a broader product-development workflow involving designers, developers, product managers, and marketers.
The main limitation is that generated code should not automatically be considered production-ready without review. Complex applications may require manual adjustments, and teams need to establish their component mappings, design-system conventions, and development workflows to get the most value from the platform. Pricing is also usage-aware through Agent Credits, so teams with intensive AI workloads need to monitor consumption.
For organizations already using Figma and modern frontend frameworks, Visual Copilot is a strong choice for reducing repetitive UI development, accelerating prototypes, and keeping design and engineering closer together.
