Canva Video AI is Canva’s AI-powered video creation and editing capability, designed to help users generate, edit, enhance, and publish video content from within the Canva platform. Its AI video tools combine text-to-video generation with Canva’s existing visual design environment, allowing users to create an AI-generated clip and then continue editing it using Canva’s timeline, templates, graphics, animations, audio, captions, effects, and other design tools.
Canva’s current AI Video Generator uses Create a Video Clip to turn text prompts into short AI-generated videos. The generated clip includes synchronized audio, which can contain dialogue, sound effects, and music. Canva states that its current Create a Video Clip experience is powered by Google Veo 3 and generates a 16:9 video of up to eight seconds from a prompt, with one video generated per prompt. Users can then add the generated clip to a Canva design and continue customizing it in the editor.
The tool is designed for users who need visual content without having to shoot every scene themselves. A user can describe the desired scene, product visualization, creative concept, or other video idea, and Canva generates the initial footage. This can be particularly useful when creating short promotional clips, social-media content, presentations, product concepts, advertisements, educational material, and other visual communications.
Canva Video AI is not limited to text-to-video generation. Canva’s broader AI video environment includes Magic Video, which can automatically turn uploaded video clips and images into a finished video based on a text prompt. Magic Video can automatically apply edits, transitions, sequencing, and music before allowing the user to refine the result manually.
The platform also includes Image to Video, which transforms a still image into a short animated video. Users can upload a photograph or other static image, provide a prompt describing the desired movement, and let Canva create a five-second clip. This can be useful for turning product photographs, travel images, illustrations, landscapes, and other static content into animated social-media material.
For presenters and businesses, Canva provides AI avatar functionality. Users can choose an available AI avatar or turn a photograph into a talking head, provide a script, and select a voice. Canva states that its AI avatars can deliver scripts in more than 40 languages. Users can also upload their own audio.
Canva also supports AI video translation and dubbing. Its AI video translator supports more than 30 languages and is designed to preserve the speaker’s original voice and tone while producing translated audio. The currently listed languages include English, Japanese, Chinese, German, Hindi, French, Korean, Portuguese, Italian, Spanish, Indonesian, Dutch, Turkish, Filipino, Polish, Swedish, Bulgarian, Romanian, Arabic, Czech, Greek, Finnish, Croatian, Malay, Slovak, Danish, Tamil, Ukrainian, and Russian.
Another important component is AI-assisted editing. Canva can generate captions, remove video backgrounds, synchronize music, create animations, apply effects, and highlight important moments from uploaded footage. Its video editor also provides a conventional timeline so users can manually adjust generated content rather than relying entirely on automation.
Canva’s AI video environment also connects with its wider creative library. Users can combine generated footage with templates, graphics, stickers, animations, fonts, stock videos, photographs, music, sound effects, and other visual assets. Canva’s video editor currently advertises more than 25,000 licensed audio tracks as well as a large collection of stock media and templates.
The platform is especially useful for social-media content because Canva supports direct publishing to major platforms. Canva’s supported sharing destinations include Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, Pinterest, YouTube, TikTok, Dropbox, Google Drive, Slack, and other third-party services.
Canva Video AI is therefore better understood as part of a broader visual-content ecosystem rather than as a standalone text-to-video generator. Users can start with a prompt, generate footage, combine it with other media, add AI-generated voices or captions, translate the video, apply branding, edit the timeline, and publish the finished project without moving between several separate applications.
Canva Video AI operates within Canva’s broader Free, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and eligible education/nonprofit plans. Canva’s current pricing page lists the Free plan at US$0, Canva Pro at US$180 per year per person, Canva Business at US$250 per year per person, and Enterprise with custom pricing.
AI access varies by plan. Canva Free provides limited AI usage, while paid plans receive substantially higher AI allowances. Canva’s current pricing information states that Free users can receive up to 20 uses of certain Standard or Premium AI tools, while Pro users can receive up to 200 uses of Premium AI tools or up to 20 uses of Ultra AI tools. Business and Enterprise plans receive higher allowances.
Canva’s AI video generation is subject to these AI allowances. Canva states that Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Nonprofit users can use Create a Video Clip to create a limited number of cinematic clips per month. The amount of usage available depends on the user’s plan and the type and complexity of the AI generation.
Canva also offers additional AI capacity through AI Pass and, for eligible Business users, AI top-ups. Pricing and availability can vary by account, region, billing method, and plan.
Canva Video AI is designed for users who want AI-generated video combined with an accessible visual editor. Its main advantage is the ability to generate a video clip and then immediately continue editing it inside Canva rather than transferring the output to another application.
The text-to-video capability is particularly useful for generating short cinematic scenes, concepts, promotional visuals, and social-media footage. The synchronized audio feature makes the generated clips more complete than video generation systems that provide visuals without sound.
Canva also provides a broader collection of AI video tools, including Magic Video, Image to Video, AI avatars, AI voice generation, automatic captions, background removal, translation, dubbing, and AI video effects. This makes the platform useful for both generating new footage and transforming existing media.
Another benefit is Canva’s established design ecosystem. Generated video can be combined with branded templates, graphics, stock assets, fonts, animations, presentations, social-media layouts, and other Canva content. This is useful for users who already create marketing or visual communication materials in Canva.
There are limitations. The current Create a Video Clip tool generates relatively short clips—up to eight seconds in a 16:9 format—and one video is generated per prompt. More extensive AI use is also subject to Canva’s monthly AI allowance, with higher-level generations consuming more allowance.
Canva’s AI Video Generator is therefore particularly suited to short-form creative production, social content, marketing visuals, presentations, and users who want AI generation integrated into a larger design workflow.
