Foxit AI is a suite of AI-powered document tools from Foxit Software Incorporated, designed to make PDF reading, analysis, editing, translation, extraction, and document-based workflows faster and more accessible. Rather than being a standalone chatbot, Foxit AI is built directly into Foxit’s document ecosystem. It currently combines three main experiences: PDF AI Assistant for working inside an open document, Foxit Workspace for projects involving multiple files, and Local AI for processing sensitive documents directly on a user’s device. Foxit says the platform is built on its broader PDF technology, which is used by more than 700 million users.
The PDF AI Assistant is the core experience for users working with an individual PDF or a small group of open documents. Users can ask questions in natural language, summarize a document, translate it, improve or rewrite selected text, correct grammar and spelling, explain difficult passages, and perform certain PDF-editing tasks through natural-language commands. Because the assistant operates within Foxit PDF Editor and Foxit PDF Reader, users can work with the AI without moving text into a separate chatbot.
One of the most useful capabilities is document question answering with citations. Foxit AI can analyze one or more documents and provide answers linked back to the relevant source. This is useful for reports, contracts, manuals, research material, and other long documents where users need to find information quickly while retaining a way to verify the result against the source. Foxit also supports document and image analysis, allowing users to extract information from content embedded in documents.
Summarization is another major feature. Foxit AI can turn long reports or documents into concise summaries containing key points and takeaways. The platform is designed for workflows in which people need to understand a document without reading every page immediately. Foxit specifically promotes this capability for business reports, contracts, research material, and other document-heavy tasks.
Foxit AI also supports natural-language PDF editing. Users can describe actions they want performed rather than navigating through menus manually. Current examples include redacting sensitive information, adding page numbers or watermarks, and reordering pages. This connects AI directly with Foxit PDF Editor’s established editing functionality and makes the assistant useful for both understanding documents and acting on them.
The platform includes AI translation for complete documents. Foxit says its PDF AI Translator supports 27 languages and can preserve the original PDF’s formatting, layout, tables, images, and structure during translation. This is particularly useful for organizations that work with multilingual contracts, policies, manuals, reports, and regulatory documents.
Foxit AI also includes AI Bookmark, which automatically creates structured bookmarks for long, unorganized PDFs. This can make lengthy documents easier to navigate, particularly when a PDF lacks useful navigation or was created without a structured table of contents. The capability is part of Foxit’s broader effort to turn static PDFs into more intelligent and interactive documents.
Another feature is Generate Image, which allows users to create images from descriptions or use an existing document image as a visual reference. This adds a limited generative-design capability to the document workflow, allowing users to create visuals without leaving the Foxit environment.
Foxit AI also supports Read Aloud and Smart Podcast. Read Aloud can read a document paragraph by paragraph using natural voices, while Smart Podcast converts a document into podcast-style audio. These tools provide an alternative way to consume document content and can be useful for reviewing reports, notes, and other reading material while performing another activity.
A newer part of the platform is Foxit Workspace, designed for projects that span multiple documents. Workspace can hold up to 100 files in a project and allows users to ask questions across the entire collection. It can analyze contracts, reports, spreadsheets, and forms together and then generate deliverables such as presentations, reports, diagrams, web pages, Markdown, and HTML. This moves Foxit AI beyond single-document Q&A toward broader project-level knowledge work.
Workspace also includes goal-oriented AI, which Foxit describes as planning the steps necessary to complete an outcome rather than simply answering one prompt at a time. Users can provide a goal, and Workspace can work through project documents and maintain context across the session. It also supports reusable Skills, including tools for summaries, mind maps, reports, infographics, quizzes, and flashcards, alongside custom skills for recurring workflows.
One of Foxit AI’s more distinctive capabilities is Local AI. On supported Windows and macOS hardware, users can run certain AI functions directly on their own computers using models delivered through Microsoft Foundry Local. Foxit says that in Local mode, inference, processing, and storage stay on the device, and internet access is not required after the model has been downloaded. This is intended for documents that users may not want to send to a cloud service, such as confidential contracts, patient records, financial documents, or files subject to data-residency requirements.
Foxit also supports bring-your-own-model capabilities for Local AI. Users can configure an OpenAI-compatible model rather than relying exclusively on a downloaded local model. This gives organizations additional control over the AI model used for document processing while keeping the document workflow on the device.
For information extraction, Foxit AI can identify text from scanned images, form-field information, and numbers from tables. Its analysis tools can also identify trends, data points, and actionable findings from documents. These functions make Foxit AI relevant to financial reports, contracts, forms, invoices, research documents, and other structured information sources.
Foxit AI has a growing connector ecosystem. Its desktop applications act as Model Context Protocol hosts and provide preset connectors for Notion, Atlassian, Asana, HubSpot, and Fireflies. Foxit also says users can configure other MCP servers, including servers for Jira, Salesforce, and Gmail. Separately, Foxit’s wider document platform integrates with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, Dropbox, Teams, and other business applications.
Security and privacy are important parts of Foxit AI’s enterprise positioning. Cloud AI processing uses Microsoft Azure AI services, and Foxit says uploaded data is kept temporarily and deleted within 24 to 48 hours depending on the service. Foxit also states that it does not use AI chat histories to train or improve AI models without explicit consent. Local AI provides a separate workflow in which documents stay on the user’s device.
The platform is especially relevant to legal, finance and accounting, healthcare, HR and operations, sales and procurement, and government workflows. Foxit highlights contract analysis, clause extraction, invoice processing, audit preparation, patient-record analysis, onboarding documents, proposal review, vendor agreements, RFP analysis, regulatory documents, and compliance verification as examples of AI-supported document work. It also explicitly lists education, insurance, and manufacturing among the industries served by its broader AI and document solutions.
Foxit itself was founded in 2001, while the current Foxit AI Assistant was released in 2024. Foxit announced an enhanced AI Assistant release for its 2024.1 PDF Editor subscription, and the company’s corporate history identifies 2024 as the year Foxit AI Assistant was released. The business is legally identified as Foxit Software Incorporated.
Foxit uses a freemium pricing model for AI Assistant. Every Foxit account currently receives 300 AI credits per month at no cost. A paid Foxit AI Assistant subscription costs $4.99 per month or $49.99 per year and provides 2,000 AI credits per month. Those credits are shared across Foxit AI surfaces, including PDF AI Assistant and Workspace, while supported Local AI functions do not consume credits.
Users can also access Foxit AI through Foxit PDF Editor subscriptions. The current Foxit PDF Editor pricing page lists PDF Editor at $129.99/year and PDF Editor+ at $159.99/year, with a 14-day free trial. Both subscriptions include 300 free AI credits per month, while PDF Editor+ also adds features such as mobile access, eSign, and Smart Redact.
Independent review information is more established for Foxit PDF Editor, the broader product that contains AI Assistant, rather than for Foxit AI as a separate product. G2 currently lists Foxit at 4.6/5 from 5,475 reviews, with Foxit PDF Editor as the principal featured product. Capterra gives Foxit PDF Editor 4.5/5 from 90 reviews. Reviewers commonly praise Foxit’s ease of use, speed, PDF editing capabilities, integrations, and value, while some reviews mention issues with advanced-feature availability, conversion, subscriptions, or occasional account and performance problems.
Foxit AI is best suited to users and organizations that already work heavily with PDFs and document workflows and want AI assistance embedded directly into those processes. Its strongest differentiators are document-grounded Q&A, natural-language editing, multi-document Workspace, source citations, on-device Local AI, multilingual translation, data extraction, and business-system connectivity through MCP connectors.
Foxit offers a 14-day free trial of PDF Editor+ without requiring a credit card.
Foxit AI itself does not have a large standalone review profile separate from the wider Foxit PDF platform. G2 currently gives Foxit 4.6/5 from 5,475 reviews, while Capterra gives Foxit PDF Editor 4.5/5 from 90 reviews. Reviews frequently mention ease of use, PDF editing, speed, integrations, and value. Some users report limitations around advanced features, subscription requirements, conversion, and occasional account or performance issues.
