HeyGen is an AI-powered video creation platform designed to help individuals, creators, marketers, sales teams, educators, and businesses produce professional videos without traditional cameras, studios, actors, or complex video-editing workflows. Users can create videos from scripts, prompts, images, presentations, documents, and other content while using AI avatars, voice generation, voice cloning, lip synchronization, translation, and automated video creation features.
HeyGen was launched on July 29, 2022, originally under the name Movio. The company later rebranded Movio as HeyGen as its product expanded from AI spokesperson videos into a broader AI video-generation platform. The company was founded by Joshua Xu and Wayne Liang.
The platform’s central capability is AI avatar video creation. Users can select from a library of stock avatars or create personalized digital avatars that can deliver scripts in different voices and languages. HeyGen’s newer avatar technologies are designed to produce more natural facial expressions, gestures, lip movements, and other visual characteristics, allowing users to create presenter-style videos without appearing on camera themselves.
HeyGen also supports Digital Twins, allowing users to create a digital representation of themselves for recurring video production. This can be useful for creators, educators, executives, sales professionals, and organizations that need to publish videos regularly without repeatedly recording themselves.
The platform includes AI Studio, its video creation and editing environment. Users can create scenes, select avatars and voices, add text and visual elements, adjust layouts, and produce videos through a browser-based workflow. HeyGen describes the editor as a text-based video creation experience intended to make AI video production accessible to users without traditional editing expertise.
HeyGen also provides Video Agent, an AI-powered workflow for creating videos from prompts and source material. Depending on the workflow, users can provide written information, documents, or other content and have HeyGen generate a video with narration, visuals, and an AI presenter.
Another major feature is AI video translation. HeyGen can translate existing videos into more than 175 languages and dialects while preserving the original speaker’s voice characteristics and synchronizing translated speech with facial movements. Users can upload a video or provide a YouTube link, select a target language, and generate a localized version.
The platform also provides voice cloning. Users can create an AI version of their voice from an audio sample and use that voice for video narration. HeyGen states that its voice-cloning system can work across its multilingual video workflows, allowing a creator’s voice to be used in different languages.
HeyGen supports AI-generated visuals as part of its broader video workflow. Its credit system can be used for features such as image generation, video generation, B-roll generation, Video Agent, Avatar IV/V, and video translation. The current credit documentation identifies several underlying generative models available for asset creation, depending on the feature.
Interactive AI avatars are another area of the platform. HeyGen’s Interactive Avatars can participate in unscripted conversations and respond to users rather than simply delivering a predetermined script. These avatars can be incorporated into interactive experiences and agent-based workflows. HeyGen states that Interactive Avatars support more than 175 languages and dialects.
HeyGen also has an expanding automation and integration ecosystem. Its official integrations directory currently includes direct integrations and AI/MCP connections for services such as HubSpot, Zapier, Make, n8n, Salesforce, Slack, Notion, Google Drive, Figma, GitHub, Vimeo, Intercom, Salesforce, Snowflake, and many others. These connections can be used to automate video creation or incorporate HeyGen into existing business and AI-agent workflows.
For example, the HubSpot integration allows businesses to generate personalized HeyGen videos directly from HubSpot workflows using CRM contact information. Templates, avatars, voices, and script variables can be connected to HubSpot workflow actions.
HeyGen also provides APIs for developers and businesses that want to incorporate AI video generation into their own applications and workflows. The API ecosystem can be used for automated video generation and related video-production processes.
Security and privacy features are also part of the platform’s business offering. HeyGen identifies SOC 2, GDPR, CCPA, Data Privacy Framework, and AI governance standards among its security and compliance measures. Enterprise-oriented features include administrative controls and other tools for managing organizational video workflows.
The platform is used across several professional applications, including marketing videos, sales outreach, employee training, e-learning, product demonstrations, customer communications, social media content, localization, and internal communications. HeyGen states that it has helped more than 100,000 companies create, localize, and personalize videos at scale.
HeyGen has also expanded beyond conventional avatar videos into identity-focused AI video. Its current positioning emphasizes maintaining the identity, voice, and personality of the person represented by an avatar while allowing that identity to be used across languages and video formats. As of 2026, the company reports more than 30 million users across 196 countries and more than 175 supported languages and dialects.
HeyGen currently offers Free, Creator, Pro, Business, and Enterprise options.
The Free plan costs $0/month. It allows users to create up to three videos per month, with videos up to one minute long, 1080p output, access to Avatar IV, 500+ stock video avatars, one custom video avatar, and 30+ languages.
The Creator plan costs $29/month, or $24/month when billed annually. It includes 600 credits per month, videos up to 30 minutes, 1080p export, 175+ languages, one voice clone, watermark removal, and additional creator-oriented capabilities.
The Pro plan starts at $49/month and includes 1,000 credits per month at the entry level, 4K export, videos up to 30 minutes, customizable usage tiers, and additional translation controls. Pro credit tiers can scale above the initial 1,000-credit level.
The Business plan costs $149/month plus $20 per additional seat. It provides 1,500 credits per month and adds team-oriented features such as collaboration and centralized billing. Business users can also purchase additional credit blocks for $5 per 100 credits, with optional automatic reloading.
The Enterprise plan uses custom pricing and is intended for organizations requiring larger-scale video production, administrative controls, collaboration, security, and enterprise support.
HeyGen combines AI avatars, video generation, voice cloning, translation, editing, interactive avatars, and automation within one platform. Its broad feature set makes it useful for organizations and creators who need to produce presenter-led video content without traditional filming.
One of HeyGen’s most significant capabilities is multilingual video production. Its translator supports more than 175 languages and dialects, including regional variants, while preserving voice characteristics and synchronizing translated speech with the speaker’s facial movements. This can reduce the need for separate recording and dubbing workflows when content needs to reach international audiences.
Digital Twins and voice cloning provide another production advantage for people who frequently appear in their own content. Instead of repeatedly recording the same type of presentation, users can create a digital representation and generate additional videos from scripts.
The platform’s integrations also make it suitable for automated business workflows. For example, HeyGen can connect with HubSpot to generate personalized videos from CRM information, while Zapier, Make, n8n, and other platforms can connect HeyGen with broader automation workflows.
The main limitation is the credit-based structure of the newer plans. Different AI features consume different numbers of credits, so users producing large amounts of video or using advanced models need to monitor their usage. For example, HeyGen’s documentation states that video translation with lip-sync can cost 6 or 10 credits per minute depending on the mode, while Video Agent and certain generative assets have their own credit rates.
The free plan is useful for testing the platform but has a relatively small monthly video allowance. Higher-volume creators and teams need Creator, Pro, Business, or Enterprise plans depending on their production requirements.
Another consideration is that HeyGen specializes in AI video rather than functioning as a complete traditional film-editing suite. Users who require highly detailed frame-by-frame production control may still need conventional video-editing software alongside HeyGen.
HeyGen’s current scale is substantial: the company reported more than 30 million users across 196 countries and more than 100,000 companies using the platform. These are company-reported figures and should be distinguished from independent user-review measurements.
