watsonx Assistant supports multilingual conversational experiences. IBM documents 13 language-specific models covering Arabic, Chinese Simplified, Chinese Traditional, Czech, Dutch, English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish. IBM also provides a universal language model that can be used for other languages, although feature support can vary depending on the language and capability being used.
The platform can also be extended with IBM services. For example, IBM documents integration with Watson Discovery for searching complex business documents and Watson Speech services for speech-to-text and text-to-speech capabilities. These integrations can expand an assistant beyond basic text conversations into document-based knowledge retrieval and voice experiences.
For developers, watsonx Assistant provides APIs and SDKs for integrating assistants into custom applications. The current documentation includes the watsonx Assistant v2 API and SDKs for languages including Java, Node.js, and Python. IBM notes that the v2 API is available with a paid Plus plan or higher.
Pricing is structured around IBM Cloud service plans. The current Lite plan is free and includes up to 1,000 unique monthly active users and 10,000 messages per month, subject to the plan’s limits. The Plus plan provides additional capabilities such as phone integration, private endpoints, search, and the v2 API. IBM also offers an Enterprise plan with higher capacity, additional governance and support features, and enterprise-oriented capabilities.
