Intercom AI

Intercom AI combines Intercom’s customer-service platform with Fin, its AI Agent for customer-facing support, sales, and ecommerce. Intercom remains the name of the helpdesk product, while Fin is the AI Agent and, since May 2026, the name of the company behind the products. Intercom says more than 30,000 businesses use its helpdesk.

The platform is designed to bring AI and human support together rather than treating them as separate systems. Intercom provides the customer-service workspace, including its omnichannel inbox, ticketing, Help Center, reporting, Knowledge Hub, outbound messaging, and integrations. Fin operates within this environment, using the same customer records, knowledge, and workflows as human support teams.

Fin AI Agent

Fin is the central AI component. It can answer customer questions, interpret complex requests, follow business policies, retrieve information, and perform configured actions. Intercom says Fin currently resolves an average of 76% of customer queries across more than 12,000 customers.

Its capabilities extend beyond basic FAQ automation. Fin can use Tasks and Procedures to perform multi-step processes, such as cancelling an order or refunding a subscription. It can also escalate conversations to human agents when automation is not appropriate.

Fin has also expanded beyond traditional customer support. Its configurable roles include Service, Sales, and Ecommerce. The Sales role can engage prospects, conduct discovery, qualify leads, and book meetings, while the Ecommerce role can provide product recommendations and assist customers during purchasing.

AI Assistance for Human Teams

Intercom does not rely entirely on autonomous AI. Its human-agent workspace includes Copilot, which provides assistance directly inside the Inbox.

Copilot can help agents with expert guidance, repetitive tasks, response preparation, and translation. Intercom also provides AI-powered ticketing, reporting, knowledge management, and other tools intended to reduce manual work for support teams.

This combination makes Intercom useful for teams that want to automate straightforward conversations while keeping human agents involved in more complicated or sensitive cases.

Knowledge and Training

Fin can be trained using multiple knowledge sources, including Help Center content, internal support materials, PDFs, and webpages. Teams can also configure Fin’s tone of voice and determine which information is relevant to particular customer audiences.

Intercom’s Knowledge Hub provides a centralized place to manage the information used by Fin, Copilot, and customer-facing self-service experiences.

Fin also includes testing and performance-analysis capabilities, allowing teams to evaluate responses before deployment and use AI-powered insights to identify areas that need improvement.

Omnichannel Customer Service

Intercom supports customer conversations across multiple channels, including email, live chat, phone, SMS, and more. Fin can also be deployed across channels so customers can interact with the AI Agent through the channels businesses already use.

The platform’s unified architecture means Fin and human agents can work from the same customer record and inbox, making handoffs more consistent.

Automation and Customer Operations

Intercom provides workflows and automation for customer-service operations. Fin Procedures allow teams to define more complex processes using a document-style editor, with code and data connectors available within workflow steps.

The platform can therefore be used for more than answering questions. It can connect AI conversations with business processes, customer data, routing, and operational actions.

Integrations

Intercom has an extensive integration ecosystem with 450+ apps and integrations, according to its current pricing FAQ. Examples include Salesforce, HubSpot, Jira, Slack, Shopify, GitHub, Stripe, Linear, Google Calendar, Instagram, Facebook, Google Meet, Typeform, WhatsApp, and Segment.

Fin can also operate with existing helpdesks. Intercom currently supports Fin integrations with platforms such as Salesforce, HubSpot, and Freshworks, allowing businesses to use Fin without necessarily migrating their entire helpdesk to Intercom.

Languages

Fin supports multilingual AI conversations and can automatically detect a customer’s language. Intercom’s current documentation lists support for 60+ language variants, including Arabic, Bengali, English, French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, Swahili, Chinese, Turkish, Ukrainian, Vietnamese, and many others.

Real-time translation can also allow Fin to use content in one language to answer customers in another supported language.

Pricing

Intercom currently uses a combination of seat-based subscription pricing and usage-based AI pricing. Its Essential plan starts at $29 per seat/month when billed annually, while Fin is priced at $0.99 per outcome.

Intercom currently offers three main plans: Essential, Advanced, and Expert. All include access to Intercom and Fin, although features and seat pricing vary by plan. There is also a 14-day free trial with no credit card required.

Optional products and add-ons can increase the cost. For example, Copilot is listed at $29 per agent/month when billed annually or $35 monthly, while the Pro add-on starts at $99/month. Messaging channels such as WhatsApp, SMS, and phone can also have usage-based charges.

Fin can also be purchased separately for use with an existing helpdesk. In that arrangement, pricing is based on Fin outcomes, with no seat costs but minimum commitments applying.

Review

Intercom AI is particularly strong for companies looking for a combination of AI customer service, helpdesk functionality, automation, proactive engagement, and human-agent assistance.

Fin is the standout feature. Its ability to handle complex requests, follow procedures, use multiple knowledge sources, perform actions, and transition conversations to humans makes it considerably broader than a basic website chatbot. Its expansion into sales and ecommerce also gives Intercom a wider role across the customer journey.

The shared environment between Fin and human agents is another major advantage. Customer records, knowledge, conversations, and workflows are connected, reducing the need to operate separate AI and support systems.

Intercom’s large integration ecosystem and multilingual support make it practical for international teams and businesses with complex technology stacks. Its ability to deploy Fin on existing helpdesks is also useful for organizations that want AI automation without immediately replacing their current support platform.

The main consideration is cost structure. Intercom combines seat fees with usage-based charges, so the final price depends on team size, Fin outcomes, messaging volume, and selected add-ons. Businesses with substantial support volume should therefore account for both platform and usage costs when evaluating the service.

Intercom AI is a strong fit for customer-service, sales, SaaS, ecommerce, and other organizations that want autonomous AI alongside a full-featured human support operation.
