Kapwing AI

Kapwing AI is a browser-based suite of AI video creation and editing tools built into the Kapwing online video editor. It combines generative AI with a full editing workspace, allowing users to create, edit, resize, subtitle, translate, dub, and repurpose video without installing desktop software. Kapwing says more than 35 million creators use the platform across more than 190 countries and regions.

Kapwing AI can generate videos from text prompts, scripts, articles, PDFs, or images. Its AI Video Generator can create short video scenes and supports features such as start frames, end frames, multi-scene generation, motion control, and character consistency. Users can then continue editing the generated material in Kapwing’s timeline editor rather than moving it to a separate application.

The platform includes more than 30 AI tools covering video, image, audio, and editing workflows. These include AI video generation, AI image generation, AI voiceover, text-to-speech, automatic subtitles, dubbing, lip sync, background removal, Smart Cut, AI-powered video enhancement, AI clips, B-roll generation, script generation, and video translation.

Kapwing also provides conversational AI functionality through its AI assistant. Users can give instructions for editing tasks such as trimming footage, adding subtitles, translating content, generating media, or refining a project. AI-generated outputs remain editable within the Kapwing Studio, allowing users to change visuals, messaging, branding, and timing after generation.

The platform is designed for both individual creators and teams. Its collaboration features include shared workspaces, real-time editing, comments, Brand Kits, custom fonts, cloud storage, and workspace folders. Business and Enterprise plans provide additional collaboration and administrative capabilities.

Kapwing AI also focuses heavily on multilingual content. Its subtitle system supports 155 language variants, while its translation and dubbing tools support 100+ languages for applicable workflows. Language availability varies between transcription, translation, dubbing, voice generation, and other features.

The company also offers the Kapwing MCP, which allows compatible AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Claude to interact with Kapwing workspaces. The MCP is currently in beta and allows supported users to upload footage, add subtitles, translate subtitles, dub videos, retrieve exports, and perform other workspace operations through an AI assistant.

Kapwing was founded in October 2017 by Julia Enthoven and Eric Lu. The original product focused on browser-based video creation and editing before expanding into the broader collaborative and AI-powered platform available today.

Kapwing currently offers Free, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans.

• Free: $0. Includes 10 lifetime credits, unlimited exports with a Kapwing watermark, exports up to 4 minutes, and 720p quality.
• Pro: $16 per member/month when billed annually, or $24/month when billed monthly. Includes 1,000 credits/month, watermark-free exports, 4K export, up to 120-minute videos, 100 GB cloud storage, Brand Kit, custom fonts, and collaboration.
• Business: $50 per member/month when billed annually, or $64/month when billed monthly. Includes 4,000 credits/month, 500 GB cloud storage, custom voice cloning, lip sync, and the ability to purchase additional credits.
• Enterprise: Custom pricing and credit allocations, with custom billing, dedicated account management, priority support, onboarding, training, SAML SSO, and custom storage.

Kapwing does not currently offer a separate free trial for its paid Pro or Business plans. Instead, users can use the Free plan to test the platform. Enterprise customers interested in larger deployments can arrange a trial with Kapwing.

Kapwing AI combines generative AI and conventional video editing in a single browser-based workspace. This makes it useful for users who want AI assistance while still retaining control over the final video.

A major feature is the ability to move from generation to editing without changing platforms. Users can create a video from a prompt, script, article, PDF, or image and then adjust the resulting project with Kapwing’s timeline and AI editing tools. The platform also supports subtitles, dubbing, translation, voiceover, B-roll, resizing, background removal, and short-form content creation.

Its multilingual capabilities are another important part of the platform. Automatic captions support 155 language variants, while video translation and dubbing support 100+ languages. This makes Kapwing suitable for creating localized versions of videos, although individual AI features can have different language availability.

The main limitation is the credit system. Free users receive only 10 lifetime credits, while Pro and Business users receive 1,000 and 4,000 credits per month respectively. Different AI features consume different numbers of credits, and unused credits do not roll over. High-volume users therefore need to monitor how they spend their monthly allocation.

The Free plan also includes a watermark and limits exports to four minutes and 720p, while Pro is required for watermark-free exports and higher-quality output. Teams should also account for per-member pricing when calculating the total subscription cost.
