Merlin is an all-in-one AI assistant available through a web app, browser extension, and mobile apps. Developed by Foyer, Merlin brings multiple leading AI models and a wide collection of AI-powered tools into one platform, allowing users to write, summarize, research, analyze files, generate images, work with code, and interact with web content without maintaining separate subscriptions for every model. Merlin describes itself as an AI assistant for ideas, research, and creation.
One of Merlin’s main selling points is its multi-model approach. Instead of being tied to one model provider, the platform gives users access to models from providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, Mistral, Meta, and others. Merlin also has a feature called Merlin Magic, which can automatically choose a model based on the task.
The browser extension is central to the Merlin experience. Users can invoke Merlin while browsing and use it on websites such as Google Search, YouTube, LinkedIn, X, and Gmail. This allows the assistant to work in the context of the page rather than requiring users to copy information into a separate chatbot. Merlin’s website specifically highlights tasks such as summarizing YouTube videos, working with documents, writing social posts, and responding to comments and emails.
Merlin has also developed into a broader AI productivity workspace. Its current feature set includes more than 70 AI tools, Projects, Vaults, Analyst Mode, Deep Research, image generation, chatbots, coding tools, and other specialized capabilities. This makes it considerably broader than its original browser-assistant concept.
Projects are designed for working with larger collections of information. Users can build knowledge bases from sources such as documents, links, Google Drive files, and YouTube videos, then interact with those materials through conversational AI. Merlin describes Projects as providing agentic retrieval and stronger research capabilities for organized information.
For smaller collections of information, Merlin provides Vaults. These allow users to save webpages, PDFs, and photos into a searchable repository. The distinction between Vaults and Projects makes Merlin useful for both quick information capture and more substantial research projects.
Another standout feature is Analyst Mode. Merlin describes this as a zero-setup data-science workspace where users can upload a CSV and ask questions in natural language. Merlin can write and run Python code, create tables and charts, and explain the results. This gives non-technical users a way to explore structured data without manually building a notebook.
Merlin also includes Deep Research Mode, which combines web browsing and reasoning for more extensive research tasks. The current Pro comparison lists Deep Research as a paid feature with a monthly usage allowance.
For creative work, Merlin provides image and video generation alongside image editing capabilities. Its current Pro plan includes access to several image and video-generation models and tools for image upscaling, editing, background replacement, image-to-image generation, and object removal.
The platform also includes Crafts, which can create diagrams and render React applications and websites from prompts. This expands Merlin into lightweight visual and development workflows rather than keeping it limited to conversational AI.
Merlin is also built for multilingual work. Its team offering states that users can generate content in any language and choose from more than 25 interface languages. The platform also specifically promotes translation and multilingual AI usage.
For organizations, Merlin offers Teams with centralized management, member administration, usage dashboards, and enterprise-oriented security. The team offering states that Merlin does not use team data to train AI models and lists SOC 2, GDPR, and ISO 27001 compliance.
The service is available across web, Chrome, iOS, and Android, with history and other account features synchronized across devices. This makes Merlin particularly convenient for users who move between desktop browsing and mobile work.
Merlin currently offers Free, Pro, and Teams plans. The Free plan costs $0 and provides limited access to basic and higher-level models, basic image generation, more than 70 AI tools with limited access, synchronization, and limited Chrome-extension features.
The current Pro plan is $19 per month when billed annually, equivalent to $228 per year. It includes unlimited access to basic models, 50× usage on Plus-level models, exclusive models, advanced image and video generation, unlimited access to 70+ AI tools subject to fair-use limits, and expanded Chrome-extension capabilities.
For teams, Merlin lists a Teams plan at $19 per seat per month, with a minimum team size of two. Annual billing is available, and the plan adds team administration, usage dashboards, larger context windows, and enterprise-oriented security.
Merlin’s biggest strength is breadth. Instead of paying for separate services for AI chat, research, writing, image generation, data analysis, browser assistance, and multiple AI models, users can access many of these functions from one account.
Its browser extension is another practical advantage because Merlin can be used where the work is already happening. The combination of web access, file analysis, Projects, Analyst Mode, research, and model selection makes it useful for research-heavy and productivity-oriented workflows.
The main limitation is that Merlin’s large feature set can make the product feel more complex than a focused chatbot. In addition, its Pro plan uses fair-use limits, meaning that “unlimited” access to some features is not an unlimited amount of unrestricted compute.
Best suited for: researchers, students, marketers, content creators, professionals, developers, and teams that want access to multiple AI models and productivity tools from one platform.
