Crescendo AI
Crescendo AI is an AI-native customer experience platform designed to help businesses manage customer support, automate conversations, improve service quality, and gain…
ThoughtSpot Sage was a generative AI-powered search experience introduced by ThoughtSpot in March 2023 to make business analytics accessible through natural-language interaction. It combined large language models with ThoughtSpot’s search technology, allowing users to ask questions about business data using everyday language rather than relying exclusively on traditional BI queries or specialized data skills.
Sage was designed to make data exploration more conversational. Users could enter natural-language questions about their business information and receive AI-generated answers based on the underlying data. Instead of requiring users to understand SQL or the exact syntax of a BI platform, Sage allowed them to describe what they wanted to know in ordinary language.
One of Sage’s major capabilities was AI-powered search. Users could search business data using natural language, while ThoughtSpot’s search technology helped translate those questions into data queries. This approach was intended to combine the flexibility of generative AI with the accuracy, governance, and reliability required for business analytics.
Sage also provided AI-generated insights alongside search results. After a user searched their data, the system could generate explanatory insights designed to help users understand important patterns or findings without manually interpreting every visualization.
Another feature was AI search suggestions. Sage could recommend additional questions and areas to investigate based on the data and insights returned from an initial search. This supported exploratory analysis by helping users move from an initial question toward deeper follow-up analysis.
Sage also included human-in-the-loop feedback capabilities. Users could correct keyword tokens when the system interpreted a search incorrectly, helping improve the search experience and allowing the system to learn from corrections.
For data-model preparation, Sage could generate AI-created descriptions and synonyms for worksheet columns. This was important because natural-language analytics depends heavily on how business terminology is represented within a data model. By adding descriptions and synonyms, organizations could make their datasets easier for users to search.
The technology behind Sage evolved over time. ThoughtSpot’s documentation describes Sage as using models including GPT-3, GPT-3.5T, GPT-4, and large language models provided through Microsoft Azure OpenAI Service.
Sage was part of ThoughtSpot’s broader strategy of bringing generative AI into business intelligence. It helped position ThoughtSpot as an analytics platform where employees could interact with organizational data in a conversational way rather than depending exclusively on analysts or traditional dashboards.
However, Sage should now be treated as a historical/discontinued product rather than a currently available AI tool. ThoughtSpot’s April 2026 release notes announced that Sage would reach end-of-life with the 26.6.0.cl release. The June 2026 release notes confirm that Sage was removed and customers were automatically upgraded to Spotter 2. ThoughtSpot recommends that administrators migrate to Spotter.
Spotter is now the relevant ThoughtSpot AI experience. Current ThoughtSpot documentation describes Spotter as an AI-powered analytics experience that can help users discover insights by asking questions, while newer Spotter agents can automate tasks such as analyzing data, building visualizations, and modeling data.
Because of this product transition, a directory entry for ThoughtSpot Sage is most useful when clearly marked as deprecated/end-of-life. It can still be relevant for historical research, comparisons of generative AI analytics products, and understanding the evolution of ThoughtSpot’s AI technology, but organizations looking for a currently supported ThoughtSpot AI product should consider Spotter instead.
ThoughtSpot itself remains an active AI-powered analytics platform. Its current environment connects to major cloud data platforms and databases, including Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Amazon Redshift, Databricks, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle, SAP HANA, and others.
ThoughtSpot Sage does not have a current standalone price because the product has reached end-of-life and has been removed from ThoughtSpot Cloud.
Historically, Sage was offered as part of the ThoughtSpot analytics platform rather than as a separate consumer subscription. Current ThoughtSpot pricing has moved toward platform-level plans and consumption-based pricing. ThoughtSpot’s current consumption model uses credits based on product usage, including searches, Liveboards, Models, administrative activity, and interactions with its current AI experiences.
ThoughtSpot Sage was an important early example of generative AI being incorporated directly into business intelligence. Its natural-language search made analytics more accessible to non-technical users and reduced the need to understand complex query syntax.
Its strongest feature was the combination of generative AI with ThoughtSpot’s existing search and analytics architecture. Rather than functioning solely as a general-purpose chatbot, Sage was designed around business data and analytics workflows. Its AI-generated insights and suggested follow-up questions also encouraged users to explore data beyond their initial question.
The semantic and modeling capabilities were another useful aspect. AI-generated column descriptions and synonyms helped organizations prepare data for natural-language search, while user corrections provided a human feedback mechanism.
The major limitation today is its discontinued status. Sage is no longer available in current ThoughtSpot Cloud releases, meaning it should not be selected as a current production solution. ThoughtSpot has replaced it with Spotter, which now provides the company’s newer AI-powered analytics capabilities.
For historical purposes, Sage remains significant because it demonstrated how LLMs could be combined with governed business analytics. For a current implementation, however, the appropriate ThoughtSpot product to evaluate is Spotter rather than Sage.
